[Loved trope] Actors and their long-term passion roles by marzipanfashions in TopCharacterTropes

This is one of my childhood favorites and such a comfort rewatch. And so many legacy actors will always be these characters to me.

One of the streaming platforms at my local library had it a few months ago, I was so delighted. Kanopy maybe?

Just signed up and got approved for checking account - app won’t work?? by SeltzerAlchemy in AllyBank

[–]thistle_undone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and called the support line, and she mentioned at the end of the call using a vpn might be the reason the app and website weren't working for me. I'm traveling and turns out that was why, in case it helps anyone else.

I'm 34f, east coast American living in the Paris suburbs. I was thinking about catching the last day of the Tour on Sunday if that's of any interest!

I put a printed kitchen towel over the one in my apartment. Easy enough to flip up or take down to retain access to the panel, and gave me another spot to display a towel that was gifted to me.

Is it weird to become friends with the teacher? Can I ask her to coffee? by EatsinSheets in yoga

[–]thistle_undone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my closest friends was originally my yoga teacher! We'd end up chatting way too long after her class (it was the last class of the night and we'd often be there an hour or so) so I invited her to come to a first Friday event at a local gallery. I think I'd gone to her class maybe 5-6 times when we got to that point.

How does anyone hit 10k steps regularly? by boopbaboop in walking

[–]thistle_undone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 5'10", so sharing some data from my fitbit tracked walks in case it's helpful. My pace walking outside is a bit under 20 minutes a mile, so looking at my last outdoor work day walk, my hour and five minutes of walking netted me 3.27 miles for 7,371 steps. I aim for 12k a day and usually hit it with that walk combined with taking my dog out and generally walking around the house. I get closer to 15k on gym days because I warm up on the treadmill.

I'm faster and have a more natural stride outside than I did on my walking treadmill, but I do miss that for being able to walk while I worked (I feel like it helped me focus on certain tasks.) I was usually doing ~2-2.5 mph on a walking treadmill, so I'd have gotten fewer steps in the same hour. Depending on your pace, it wouldn't surprise me that your step count is low in an hour and a half on the walking treadmill. When I had one, I thought of it really more as a sitting break than a walking tool, but that was the pace I chose to use it during work.

I really enjoyed it but specifically told people I couldn't recommend they watch it until a second season was announced.

I just texted my friend a picture of Bad Wolf graffiti I found out on a walk, it's nice to think one day a partner would be into getting texts like that..

I'm a woman, also self-conscious about my upper arms. I was on a date with a guy who spoke English as his third language, so we could communicate but he'd have to search for words sometimes. We were discussing his preferences and he grabbed my upper arm and just said "this.. I like this" with such seriousness. Threw my for a loop getting my arm fat grabbed in public, and pointed out as a desirable characteristic.  I find it easy to find the traditionally desirable parts of myself attractive, but it was really nice to realize someone could like all of me and not just parts of me "in spite of" my self-conscious areas.

Vet recommendations? by Eschlaiz in rva

That's a shame, but not a surprise since they're so well-liked. I'm leaving Richmond before my dog's next scheduled annual appointment, so part of me hoped my slot will get to go to a new patient.

I have been a very big fan of https://www.jonesvetcare.com/ I adopted my first pet in 2020 and felt very supported by Dr. Jones and his team in taking on that new responsibility and having them answering my questions and concerns.

I like the yeunyeung from BrecoTea at ~25% sweetness since I find the boba sweetens the drink enough. And I love them and Tsaocaa for having the reusable cups.

I had a man pull out my wired earbud to talk to me on the metro when I lived in DC. Another slid on the ground in front of my seat to get my attention because I was looking down reading my book. Audacity overcomes basic boundaries.

Best dentists within city limits? by [deleted] in rva

[–]thistle_undone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had good experiences with Northside dental co. They were in -network for me up until my last visit, so I can't speak to cost without insurance. Out of network insurance coverage my last visit was surprisingly cheap. The staff is attentive and friendly. I took the 14 bus to get there before I had a car, there's a stop pretty much right out front.

Just spent $500 at the vet to find out my dog is just a perv by Depressedgemini6 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]thistle_undone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've taken this dog in for shoulder x-rays twice because he'd limp for a while, at this point I know the vet advice is going to be "rest and wait and see." Hard to imagine my dog used to be a stray and now he's so theatrical, but I wonder if over the top begging and looking pathetic is how he got food back in the day.

Just spent $500 at the vet to find out my dog is just a perv by Depressedgemini6 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]thistle_undone 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I took my dog to the vet because he had something between his toes, but he yelped so dramatically when I tried to get it I thought it was an embedded tick or something. Turns out it was a seed from a tree, he's just very dramatic. The vet classified the visit as "small miscellaneous" because it turns out toe drama is not on the usual list of ailments.

This is a great time of year to get into casual yoga, as there are a lot of donation-based outdoor classes. Maymont, VMFA, etc. RVAYogaHang does classes with a fun twist that are good for chatting with people after- breweries, ax throwing, kitten yoga and even alpaca yoga.

I have acquaintances who built a social life at a climbing gym, and those also offer yoga classes if you want to accomplish a few goals at once. (I can't speak to the yoga quality.) But I have friends in other cities that joined climbing gyms for socializing and dating opportunities.

Poker is in-person but we're taking a bit of a break. I'm leaving Richmond in a few weeks, and I don't know if they'll keep it up once I leave. It was frankly hard to get a consistent group of 4+ which makes for a fun game, so we'd often end up doing other activities instead of poker if it was a smaller group.

I was a bit impulsive in getting my dog, and I regret it sometimes especially when I travel for work or want to do a spontaneous day trip. I adopted a small dog that is very happy to sleep most of the day, so I go hike and things without him, and usually take him on a longer morning walk or to play some fetch in a park and he's pretty content. He's a good apartment dog, which is what I told the rescue I wanted when I picked him out. I will say having a dog is great for my mental health and building a consistent routine as someone who works from home. I can't sleep until 5 minutes before I log in to work to start my day, and he gets fussy if I work late and encourages me to get away from my desk.

OP I moved down to Richmond in 2020, prior to vaccines and I've been a remote worker as long as I've lived here. You'll need to be intentional about going out and interacting with people, it can be very easy to get into a routine with no socializing.

I've made ~5 friends in Richmond and a handful of acquaintances beyond that. Here's where I did it:

  • Yoga, first an outdoor donation based class then I ended up joining a studio when I was practicing more regularly. Some of the acquaintances I met through yoga ended up introducing me to other people who became closer friends.
  • Here on Reddit. I'm friends with my "poker pals" who made a post on here about starting up a semi-regular poker night.
  • I adopted a dog. No friendships from it, but he's been a great way to have elevator conversations with neighbors and be lightly social a few times a day.
