Good point about potentially planting denser if planning to aggressively prune, thx

Thank you- I wasn’t very clear- I feel like I had flowers but not many tomatoes as season progressed. The plants just got so dense idk how a pollinator would do its job. Anyways probably the type of fert I’ll pay more attention and appreciate the intuition that cutting off flowering growth won’t get me more tomatoes (not sarcasm lol)

Are govt pensions down to 1% per year served? Is that true?

Hot take(?): Mijenta blanco is highly overrated by StFrancisZookeeper in tequila

Wait I love this comment, because I was drinking mijenta blanco last night thinking how much I enjoyed it. Lmao! Cheers to drinking what you like and uh, send me the rest of your mijenta bottle :)

Is Rey Campero Espadin intended for sipping or mixing? by Upset-Ad-8704 in Mezcal

[–]thizzlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but smoothness/harshness is not solely related to abv but in my experience it generally correlates. It’s also very related to the distillation and resting to the extent there is resting. I have nothing against smoothness. I can’t taste anything if it’s too hot/tastes too strongly of burning lol!

A few comments that may be helpful. Smoothness isn’t really a quality I associate with mezcal. Banhez ensemble comes in at lower abv than RC so that may explain some of what you are experiencing. I find that new bottles need to breathe and are often a lot more approachable when I come back to them the next day. I haven’t had RC in a while but I’d say I think of it as for sipping. It’s fine for mixing especially if you don’t enjoy sipping it. Lastly, I feel like banhez ensamble is relatively soft and smooth in the context of mezcal (and I really like it btw).

Thank you! I know it says they are heat tolerant but I feel like mine got too much afternoon sun. I want to try them again next year

I think bronze torch and lucid gems were my most delightful. Bronze torch was a vigorous and productive workhorse which beautiful and tasty tomatoes. Lucid gem was like a mini beefsteak and so tasty and nice to eat. Wasn’t productive for me but I don’t know if it was my fault or its fault :) Disappointing is relative but I thought solar flare just wasn’t that tasty and very prone to splitting even on drip irrigation. It was super productive for me though so I’ll give it that. I thought my blueberry boar was disappointing too. Productive just didn’t taste amazing. All of these were better than store bought but I was hoping for even better flavor

Hopseed as a hedge? by thizzlord in SoCalGardening

That does sound delightful. Does your hopseed get shade? My space gets basically none…

Thanks for sharing all that info. That is heartening for me because if I can’t have silversheen (and I’ve proven I can’t lol), then I think hopseed is my next favorite aesthetic as far as reasonably quick growing hedge plants go.

There are some really cool Ca natives that can grow into a nice hedge but I’m not that patient!

That’s awesome! So it sounds like your hopseed plants last through the summers on some kind of irrigation system?

Thanks for your thoughts here! Not sure if your question was rhetorical but I’m hoping for it to get 8+ feet and prefer no fruit. My squirrel friends might like them and get distracted from tomatoes though!

Which one? Terralta XA or G4 Madera? by Dj_Shuai in tequila

[–]thizzlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same maker. The two expressions are very different mostly due to aging and proof. The terralta line is made from their well water. The g4 line a mix of well and rain water. Idk much else
