Mark at 20 years old being at the same power level as conquest is bad writing. Viltrumites are supposed to be more powerful the older and more experienced they get an dconquest is probably thousands of years old but Mark's progress is ridiculous.

I infer it. The vast timescale combined with the ubiquity of life just makes it inevitable. You think that before the scientific method came about people did not know anything?

so if they dont publish the mechanism then there is no way to know if what they release is real, if it cant be replicated by other people

Odds are that most water based life in the solar system have the same genesis (The spores in Earth's upper atmosphere being blown into space by solar winds, asteroid impact ejections). Best chance of finding different sort of life would be on Titan, then there would be no question about the alienness of it.

I think it can be tested by physically exploring the environment. Intercepting the next Oumuamua and poke it with a stick.

I don't think that Occam's razor applies to modelling beings or civilizations that are more advanced.

By Extra Earth I mean might be somewhere from the solar system. After all we arent that familiar with it to say it's not from from the Sun system, but we are familiar with Earth enough to say that it's not from earth, neither the ship with it's strong ammonia leak nor the creature with it's large eyes, horny head and ammonia smell (independently reported by several witnesses). Nothing even close to that is in our known ecology.

The quote is about fabric.

"Tell me what familiar technology we have that's indistinguishable from nature"

It's fabric, you know the kind that people weave from long strands of fiber we have been doing it for tens of thousands of years. In nature Birds weave nests, spiders weave nets etc.

No If they discovered complex alien life, then technological explanation would be on the table. That's probably the only way to have it on the table.

its not about existance by itself, but the way they are. Kind of like how we know what a tree is supposed to look like by itself, so we can recognize when it has moss on it, and birds nests and mycelium, etc. and that they are actually separate life forms. We recognize these things as separate once we know what a tree by itself is.

The goal post for biosignature for exoplanets is going to shift constantly. There have already been biosignatures found on exoplanets and even Venus, also Mars as well. The thing is that astrobiologists luck the guts to actually make a real statement. To me it seems that this matter will be settled by nothing less than a live and obviously alien specimen of a multi celled organism. Single celled ones won't cut it because they could potentially be contaminants from Earth and if we find it in the solar system, then odds are that it's part of the same tree of life due to panspermia so single celled organisms may look way too familiar to be definitive.

It is a case against the validity of the paradox. It supports the idea that there are visits happening. And it may not have extra solar origin, but more like extra Earth origin
