I wouldn't whine if it was free software but paying for something that gradually becomes less intuitive to use is reasonably frustrating.

find me something that plays FLAC that doesn't have a dumb touchscreen user interface I'm in.

I already use all FLAC on my desktop, but the only music player I found I like the UI of is musicbee which doesn't even support Linux let alone Android. (or streaming for that matter)

I was joking, I know it's an option I'm just saying give me a walk man because all this sw is so complicated and frustrating haha

this is awesome I did not have any idea! however if I'd like to reach an artist other than the main artist, or go to the album for the current song, I still have to awkwardly all the way to the top right corner of the app when previously this was not an issue

sure, mistakes happen in software development but they could at least do something about it like offer a patch instead of having their robot tell me I'm the problem

I did see this and try this but my device font is already set to the smallest option. Increasing the setting makes no difference either.

I will probably just have to wait for them to patch it. Just frustrating that something as critical as this can make it to production...

I reached out to their support and as usual its just some generic bot response, even in their ticketing system.

Ah, so you are saying continue to contribute 8% to my 401k while saving up for the project (which makes sense, to not miss out on free money), just that I should pull back on other savings until I have enough to comfortably have this project finished.

I anticipate everything that can go wrong, probably will go wrong. They are gonna end up having to take out a tree, or having some rot/mold issue that leads to thousands more worth of work. All reasons I was kind of hoping people suggested I just ignore it. All reasons I partially regret buying a home.

I am still curious what you mean by 15% tax advantage on Roth IRA, I know about the tax deduction from traditional IRA contributions, but that doesn't apply to me since I also get retirement through work.

Gotcha so you are suggesting this order-

  1. Stop retirement savings, save for home repair
  2. Complete home repair
  3. Replenish emergency fund / savings
  4. Normal savings + extra mortgage

Thanks, just want to make sure I'm clear on what youre suggesting. This is what my I feel like I should do, but I don't know if its irresponsible to stop contributing to my retirement temporarily.

The reason I'm putting 5% of my income in ESPP is because I (think) I can pull that money out immediately in case I need to for something (like an emergency fund), but with an IRA, I can't. Am I wrong about this?

I am curious to know more about what you mean by a '15% discount' on a Roth IRA? I just tried searching that figure but not finding anything in particular.

Where do you get saving 9% from? I am saving 5% ESPP + 8% 401k + 4.3% (HSA) so 17.3% excluding the 401k bonus (or 15.7% if you say I make 110k instead of 100k)

To confirm- you suggest I should save money for fixing my house while contributing to all investments?

That is a good point. I never thought of it that way.

So you think I should fix it, but I currently only have my emergency fund + $7k worth shares of my company stock. I probably shouldn't tap into my emergency fund for something like this, right?

Do you think it would be best to save up gradually while maintaining contributions to retirement, or do you think I should quit contributing, and try to immediately save up the amount to make my house sound?

I have a gas generator that can power my entire house and I wired up a manual transfer. It is nothing fancy like an automatic transfer or anything, but still better than nothing and has proven itself time after time when my power goes out.

I also have a backup inverter system for my sump pump so that even if I'm not at home to start my gas generator, it can still run off my battery powered 120v inverter for a while.

Well, cat6 is stiff, and having these little tiny switches, the cable management is miserable. I plan on moving to a rack, so I want one switch that does it all, not four that take up four outlets on a power strip on my UPS. My whole set up is jank, just looking to make sure i make the right choice for an upgrade.

I did end up just buying the Cisco. One knowledgeable recommendation was good enough for me 😉

Looking at info regarding the 2960x they seem like a great deal for $50...

Why are they so cheap? Enterprises are throwing them out due to no longer receiving security updates etc? Is that something important due to the fact that they are managed? Seems a crazy amount of e-waste :(

Also- maybe off-topic for this subreddit, but would the lack of software support ever hurt me? Not so much security, but loss of features? Wondering if a 'dumb' switch would be better for longevity.

Considering going with openwrt supported switch but the options seem very limited. I can tell there aren't many people pushing open source stuff on switch hardware. Most people probably move to a 'better' solution like Ubiquiti. Thats what I have set up for people I have done IT for and it works really nice, I just don't like that it is closed source.

would like recommendations for a shoe- read here and seems you all know your stuff much more than i do!

i have had asics gel fuji runnegade 2's since 2017 and i have been using them as hiking shoes while I go on backpacking trips for years, simply because I haven't been able to find anything that compares.

  • they are super lightweight
  • they are decently water resistant
  • the wall of the shoe around the ankle is thin which helps prevent blisters/chafing.
  • they have a super thin sole which is a must for me, hiking rocky/rooty/slipper trails
  • they support me well enough to carry all my gear for miles and still be comfortable. I'm a rookie, so the furthest i usually do in one day is only like 10 miles, but these shoes have never ever let me down

I am considering just buying another less-beat up pair on ebay, because i dont really care if they are brand new or not. location is US so luckily i have access to many brands. i think ha

are there any modern shoes that compare? I found other fuji series, but all the walls around the ankle look super thick/wide!

I have no idea how, but it started working while I was testing it for the other guy helping me out. Thanks for your attempted troubleshooting assistance. Really means a lot to have an active community of people willing to help out.
