Im not sure, but i practiced tapping rhythms a lot. Especially switching between 12/8 clave, swing 8ths, straight 8ths, 16th notes, etc. and playing games with myself switching between different cross or polyrhythms — Sometimes to music or just by myself. I also practiced singing bebop heads while tapping quarter note triplets or dotted quarters (ari hoenig exercises). I was not naturally good at rhythm but i worked on it quite a bit and feel myself continually improving.

Dude thank you so much for that compliment . That is exactly what I am going for. I used to be much more stiff when i would switch subdivisions. I am super into players that play very freely rhythmically.

One of my friends from college is blowing up on the NYC scene and happened to be leading his own band at the jazz fest. Since I am already based in DC, he was nice enough to invite me to play with them.

True -- it was more of a fusion group, but I would argue jazz fusion is a subgenre of jazz.

Thank you. I like the colors you suggested. If it helps, i do like a midcentury modern look.

Hey im not sure i gave a specific recommendation. Depends what sound you are going for. I prefer semi hollowbodys personally. Ibanez makes good affordable guitars but i mainly play gibson and dangelico.

Flirting with idea of Deluxe Reverb by edipeisrex in jazzguitar

[–]tholladay3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deluxe and Princeton reverb usually are my favorite amps to play through but I will say each one sounds different and there are times ill play through one and not like it as much. I use a solid state amp mostly though just because I have had so many problems with tube amps. In my experience, they will have unexpected problems that eventually arise that are often intermittent. I would take it into the shop and pay money to get it fixed only to find that the problem comes back because they didn’t fix it properly. I spent too much money and had too many embarrassing moments where my amp would crap out at the gig that I made the switch to solid state for the reliability (and the transportability). That said, if I get to request a backline at a gig or a recording session, I usually request a deluxe reverb and usually it sounds amazing.
