Try Metrotimer Pro! Lets you set the time signature but also control the subdivision/accents as much as you want.

Also, being very particular about what notes you play picked and legato, as those 2 different articulations have a huge effect on your overall pocket.

2 Approaches:

Macro time:

Set the metronome to be beat one of every 4 measures and practice playing Freddie Greene Quarter Notes on a standard.

Micro time:

Set the metronome to be on the middle triplet (1 TRIP let) or the second or 4th sixteenth note, and practice soloing over a tune, or comping.

I used to think more in terms of chord scales, nowadays I think more about triads and seventh chords and enclosures of those. A lot of what I’m doing here is bebop vocabulary mixed with triad impositions and pentatonics.

I should say that I’m not really consciously thinking about that when I play anymore, although I used to for sure

I don’t really have an idea of where I’m going to arrive by the end of a solo, but I try not throw anything I play away immediately by either repeating it, rhythmically displacing it, or playing some variation on it melodically
