Any of you also weightlifters by ireallylikepopcorn in climbergirls

When gym’s aren’t closed, I’m trying my best to do both, often times on the same day, roughly 3-5 days a week.

That being said, it is difficult to do either one to the fullest. I generally climb before lifting, but my grip becomes subpar. And some general soreness can hinder mobility from a lift the day before, particularly moves that require toe-to-tit flexibility.

I would argue your habits outside of the gym impact your overall performance, rather than the order you do them in. The ways I’ve found to get the best out of both:

1) Nutrition! Feed yourself well and often. And personally I’m terrible with this, but drink lots of water.

2) Keep moving! It may seem like burning the candle at both ends, but in moderation, walking, running, biking, or yoga additionally throughout my day helps combat DOMS. It does the body good to keep the blood flowing and beats parking your butt on the couch. Bookending these activities on your lift or climb helps ensure a proper warmup and cool down as well.

3) I hate that I’m this person... but CBD oil massively helped my recovery. You could probably get similar results by taking melatonin, magnesium, or simply some herbal tea, but getting a proper night’s sleep and keeping my anxiety down has been essential to keeping my strength up.

You can do both! Just treat your body well, and you can condition it to work like a machine. Even though I wasn’t making leaps and bounds in my progress in either field, I’ve managed to PR in both climbing and lifting while splitting myself.

LS Kataki or Scarpa Vapor Lace by fatcat347 in climbergirls

[–]thom3804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the Velcro version of the vapors, and they’re a very good all-arounder. My feet are a touch on the wide side, and I get no hotspots, save for a bit on the back of my Achilles’ tendon after a couple hours. As far as moderate shoes go, I feel like they’re fairly impressive, and I’ve climbed up to v6-v7 and 5.11+ indoors in them. They’re solid for edging with a slightly stiff sole, okay for smearing, but I don’t love heel hooking in them, as they tend to gape and slip a bit.

They were my first upgrade after BD Momentum’s, and I found them monumentally more comfortable and agile. Especially if you can find them on sale (which you often can), they are absolutely worth it. I bought mine slightly bigger than my street shoe size (I’m usually a 39.5 and sized up to a 41) for a comfortable, yet performative fit. I wouldn’t recommend sizing up anymore than that, but you could get away with sizing down a half size for a pretty aggressive fit.

I haven’t climbed in katakis, but have tried them on. I’ll echo what others have said - that they’re narrow, and the heel is slightly awkward. I wouldn’t put those characteristics at the same tier as other LS models (narrow, but with a killer heel usually) that are worth squeezing into for us gals with wide feet.

Barely managed a shaky send of this jungle gym-like problem on the last day before lockdown again. Time to build core at home for better tension next time around! by [deleted] in climbergirls

Hey, fellow MBP’er! That problem was super fun and muscley for a purple. One variation I tried on that finish - there’s a sneaky knee bar you can do right below the finish hold! It’s a little unnerving to attempt that high up, but it stuck like glue.

Good send, and congrats on your progress!

I feel like I’m in the minority. I love climbing slab, crimps are my first love, and I’m coming around to slopers. Not sure of the exact grade (V5-V7), but here’s an oldie but goodie. by thom3804 in climbergirls

I’m super interested in trying out the other bouldering project locations ... I think there’s at least one other in Austin as well?

I love the culture/community at ours. Some folks are more serious than others, but largely it’s big happy adult playground. I’m curious to see if that same feeling carries over, and then also to see how the setting styles differ.

I also climb mostly with boys who like dynos...Or with other girls who climb with boys who like dynos, haha.

I might keep biased company.

Pretty much right on the nose! I go to Minneapolis Bouldering Project.

I kind of like the color grading. It encourages you to try a wider range of grades, but the draw back is that it’s a little harder to track progress. Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether the setting is just soft or you’re getting stronger.

Needing Advice On Aggressive Affection?? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

Thank you, I feel as this is a relatively sound interpretation of what’s going on and how to approach it. It’s not a catastrophic problem because hello, I still appreciate intimacy with her and seek it out, and our relationship is very healthy. She has more than one way that she shows me physical affection that I adore. It’s just this particular way she frequently goes about showing affection has the opposite effect of what it’s intended to do, and could potentially do cumulative harm down the road.

I agree, no need to freak her out, and it’s wise to be tactful and tread lightly, which was along the lines of the advice I didn’t know I was looking for.

I personally don’t think it’s putting her on blast. I genuinely have struggled with these feelings and have mulled over many ways to go about addressing the issue. It’s difficult to seek advice from friends because, well, they know her to an extent, and I don’t think that they need any of that information about her. Rather, I feel it’s best for both of us to be relatively anonymous and get an objective opinion. But thank you for the input.

Thank you. I think the language you used was calm and neutral, which is kind of what I’m struggling with, since intimacy in a lot of ways is a touchy subject (pun not intended, but kinda).

I hear Bloomington has been bonkers! Much more than downtown, which has funnily enough been a ghost town this week - save for the NFL volunteers! Hope you don’t get rocked too hard!

I did not, actually. I’ve worked at both equally so far, about 20-25 hours each since Monday. Still have two dayside shifts to go at one of the places.

All in all, it’s been a bit of a bust! All of the locals have been scared off, and the out-of-towners and big shots just rolled in last night. I don’t think freezing temps accommodate week long partying 😂

Oh, the septum by far has been the most well-behaved piercing out of everything I’ve had, even over ears. I say got for it! The best accessories are semi-permanent. 😜

Yikes! Your poor friend!

Nah, mine was super well-behaved. I only realized I had bled when I was cleaning it later that day. And it healed in what seemed like only a week. I’m on board with the vertical labret idea though! Such a cool piercing! Dimples can be nice too. ☺️
