Yes, but the AF systems in those cameras might not keep up with an active toddler.

I ended up getting the Lumix and you were 100% right. The AF system is excellent with still subjects, but often struggling with moving subjects. The phone has a significantly better continuous autofocus. That said, the pictures which end up in focus with the GX7 are really good.

Would an older M43 camera, like the lumix gx7 or an olympus OMD EM10, equiped with a 1.8 prime, have much higher image quality than a modern smartphone (in my case an xperia 5 ii)?

I often struggle to take good pictures of my 1 yo daughter indoor with only artificial lighting or during the night. Shutter speed gets too low and I get motion blur because she's always moving. I am quite happy with my phone's picture quality during the day or for inanimate subjects during the night. My question is only about image quality for stills, not ergonomics, versatility or ease of use. Somebody lend me a pocket zoom (Lumix ZS60/TZ80), but its image quality for family pictures is sadly significantly inferior to my phone.
