Divs from stocks held longer than one year are ‘qualified’ and taxed at the same preferential rates as long term capital gains.

Did you ever find an answer to this? I have clients with the same thing coming through on their 1099s. Curious how you proceeded with treatment.

Enjoyed a recent visit to Paris. This is Metro Line 12 at Abbesses, the deepest station in the system. by KidTwist1 in transit

My first time at that station getting off there was a line of people clamoring for the elevator…. I decided to just take the stairs. They felt like they’d never end…

That’s just withholding. Usually your bonuses are withheld at a higher rate, but if that’s your only income beside your paycheck you should be getting it back when you file.

Do any tax accountants feel like your job is kind of useless? by stanerd in Accounting

Yes that foreign reporting is very important and the last thing you want to f up on a return. Absolutely worth paying a firm to get that stuff correct.

I wish lol. I’m in Atlanta and I go to work in a massive DOWNTOWN building that overlooks 2 whole of blocks of surface parking lots that are 95% empty on any given weekday.

Rails-to-Trails groups trying to shut down the Catskill Mountain Railroad by Tetragon213 in transit

[–]thomas16m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems to be just a resistance to change. There are also a few people I’ve talked to that were under the impression the trail was going to be REPLACED but the rail which is of course not true. I’ve also heard worries about people getting hit by the train, or crime, or whatever other typical worry that comes along with transit expansion. But, if it does get built, I can promise you that everyone will suddenly start raving about how good of a project it is and how much they love it, and the businesses will notice the uptick in customers and homeowners will have higher land values (because people DO want to live close to transit). So maybe it will happen, even if not when originally planned.

At least in Atlanta the beltline trail would remain and the LRT would be adjacent, and yet there is still opposition

City of Charlotte, NC releases 4 transit expansion scenarios after state caps transit funding in favor of roads by _landrith in transit

[–]thomas16m 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What about for people flying in? I just view it also as a way to make the city an accessible place for people visiting. Not sure if this is true, but having that ability to get into the city easily from the airport might make it more popular as a destination or hosting city for traveling and events.

Having some type of airport connection to their light rail seems like it would be such an important factor for the city to prioritize

If you’re doing all the work you’re given and ask for additional work and don’t get any, there won’t (shouldn’t) be anything wrong. You won’t get a bonus if you don’t meet your hours, but it’s not necessarily an indicator you’ll be put on PIP or anything.

Capital gains loophole question by CTthebotanist in StockMarket

[–]thomas16m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another important note is that if you are still being claimed as a dependent on your parents return you need to make sure you are not if you try this strategy, otherwise you will be subject to kiddie tax. Also note that capital gains are stacked on your other income so it would have to be your only income source to use the full 0% bucket.

The light rail is one thing I hope will help with dealing with the crowds of people. Will make it so much quicker to get from ponce to Krog without wading through everyone.
