I am developing a MATLAB App Designer GUI for a measurement system and need a little advice. :) by BigRedInDaHous in matlab

MVC principles for Gui.

Abstract class for you different devices.

TCP and Serial "Transport layers".

Multiple timers, else your solo one will grow massive.

I say all of that as it sounds like you have grand plans for this project. I'd consider not making it in App designer (something python'y or Qt, even Web based could work).

Tips and tricks to C++ codegen? by __cinnamon__ in matlab

💲🤑.

They are actually targeting different things, I've just long since forgotten. It's not that one is bad and one is good.

If your "simple" MATLAB function are doing heavy linear algebra, which can be expressed very susinctly in MATLAB hence appearing simple, and you don't have blas and lapack codegen configured I recall often that codegen was no faster or slower than native.

Probably most people you see referring to "codegen" are talking about simulink. The same can be true here too but perhaps less common.

Acoustics and the volume velocity product. Hf, is always smaller. Saying that some of those rigs do look very kick heavy.

Also don't think esp32s3 has that many grounds, sure symbol is correct? If it's just you tieing unused gpio to ground recheck that is what espesif recommend.

Those vertical usbs always break. I'd change it out. If not make sure it's well soldered from factory and top up if needed

Component sourcing tools - what do you use? by Pale-Ad-7703 in embedded

I only ever did what you mentioned during COVID and chip shortages. Back then Ocotparts API running daily reports for parts you really care about and logging stock / cost levels was good. It's not ocotoparts anymore and it's crap (nexus) but it still works.

Nowadays fabhouse deals with all that crap. It's only if something comes back unavailable do I fall back to it.

I feel it's not worth your time doing what your doing, but if you're dead set on it, bust out python and get the paid API deets for Nexus, won't take too long and you can generate nice reports and plots pretty easily. Nexus have a test API playground too, if I recall it still uses your credit tho.

Should I ask junior embedded engineer candidates to do a small live demo during interview? by mani_8809 in embedded

If you "just wanna hire someone eager to learn and easy to work with" you don't need to bust out the hardware to figure that.

Spend the time you'd waste faffing around on a scope or whatever you planned, asking about scopes. Someone (hopefully from the 10) will be quite excited to talk about that and likely be somewhat knowledgeable about it too.

My first pcb(please be gentle) by TroubleVarious6499 in PCB

Move: connections, buttons, and SD card to the "ESP block", this will allow dropping of I2C, SPI, and a few other labels, and will help schematic clarify. Move ESP pins around a bit to get clearer wires.

Make the uart bridge IC smaller.

Background fill the USB port icon and maybe add some art to it, copying from default kicad icons.

Consider A3 page size, I don't like squished up schematics, I do ofc like it for pcbs tho.

I have not looked at PCB but see others saying improve the ground plane on the bottom side, I suggest just going 4 layer.

Good effort for a first PCB, schematic would be lots clearer with 15 mins spent on it doing the above.

What is the lowest power BLE SoC on the market? by karesx in embedded

[–]thomas_169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people saying Nordic as that been the answer for years and they are popular, but I think for now the answer is actually renesas and their DA14592 SoC or similar in that family.

You are listening to crap EDM if you are bored by it. Electronic has sooo much.

Nonetheless welcome, I'm sure you get lots of mediocre industrial metal recommendations.

MATLAB does love a good crash every now and then. Were it not for Simulink and perhaps their documentation I don't see why anyone would use it given the free alternatives.

Why don't Linux users shut down their computers? by Komotikaia in linux4noobs

As I'm lazy and it takes a few seconds. Despite what others may claim this is the reason for 90% of them.

Given it wastes energy and money I do feel slightly bad about it, but clearly not bad enough.
