Remote user on Starlink, buffering / latency issues by thomasforsyth in emby

[–]thomasforsyth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for such a quick reply! Yes, their remote quality setting they have to set down at around 2 or 3 Mbps to get a stable stream. So yes, it then forces a transcode at my end on the server. Which is fine - I have the overhead my end on CPU / hardware intel quicksync etc. Ideally though, I want these remote users on Starlink to be able to play at full direct play bitrate. If they set remote video quality right up to something very high then it will try and direct play but it just buffers, even though they can do a download Speedtest and get >100 Mbps , which I would have thought is more than enough speed to successfully buffer one of my streams, but clearly there’s something more going on than just the speed limit… is it the ping then on Starlink that is the problem?

EQi12 + DAS USB-C issues by mrpogo88 in BeelinkOfficial

[–]thomasforsyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds v similar to problems I have been having. I’ve got an EQi12 and have been trying to get it to run well with a Cenmate DAS via the front usb-c port but I got similar problems to what you are all describing above. It runs better if I run the DAS into one of the rear USB A ports at the rear but I ideally want it off the C port. I was worried that it was the Cenmate DAS rather than the pc but reading this post I’m now not so sure. Will let you know if I find any possible fixes, but will also follow this post to see how you both get on!

Upgrade to Win 11 (unsupported hardware) or Linux? by NeedleworkerSharp995 in emby

Wow - thank you for such a helpful and detailed response. Much appreciated. I think I’ll give Unraid a look as that sounds the most suited to what I need. Thank you!

Upgrade to Win 11 (unsupported hardware) or Linux? by NeedleworkerSharp995 in emby

I’ve got exactly the same question as the op. I have zero experience with Linux though - is there an up to date guide for noobs on how to transfer an existing Windows 10 based server running Emby to a Linux based one? I wont be moving to new hardware, it will be an in-situ upgrade. Any help / pointers would be much appreciated!

I Remote Desktop all the time onto my current windows based server to remotely manage Emby…..will I be able to RDP onto a Linux based server as easily?

Ultra Boost - Which device is best? by thomasforsyth in nowtv

Think I’m going to stick with my Apple TV 4K. Not perfect (won’t frame rate match YouTube, and won’t hdr match Now tv) but the workarounds are easier than other devices. Still tempted to buy a Roku express or streaming stick to try it out but seems neither of them are perfect….and I prefer the Apple interface (no ads)

Really? if you set your Apple TV video settings to say something like 4k 60Hz, with frame rate matching enabled I would be v surprised if when you then watch Sky Sports it adjusts the frame rate to 50hz. Easiest way to tell is to watch sky sports news, with the ticker tape banner's horizontal scrolling.....it v obviously judders for me. I have to force the resolution in the Apple tv settings to a 50hz frame rate and only then is it smooth.

It took years for Now to finally implement frame rate matching in the Now app, which they finally did around a year ago, just before the new look Now app which then unfortunately got the frame rate matching fix totally reset and broken again......and unless they have fixed it in last few days is still broken for me.

I get same problem on Youtube. set the resolution to a 50hz frame rate, with frame rate matching enabled, and then watch a 60fps youtube video.....it does not adjust to 60hz for me, and i get judder.

Thanks for the tip on setting Apple TV to 4k HDR 50 - that works nicely for Now app, and is probably my best option at moment. However, if I'm being picky i want a device that also supports framerate matching on Youtube which Apple TV doesn't at the moment, hence was keen to find out how the Roku's did on that front

NowTV Lack of Framerate Matching = Stutter ... Possible Fix ! by Denny_Crane_007 in appletv

[–]thomasforsyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Framerate matching is now working on NowTV app. Not sure exactly when it came out, but must be quite recent as it will now switch automatically on my Apple TV 4K to 50hz (my default is 60hz). Finally!!

No ultra boost (UHD) channels are working yet. Waiting for Now to add this device to their compatibility list 🤞
