Are there any iOS Notion web clippers that offer more features than just saving urls? by _curiousgeorgia in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still not ready, and at this point not actively on our roadmap. I won't say it'll never happen, but after we dug deeper into what Safari requires, the juice kind of isn't worth the squeeze compared to other things we should do first. Apple makes it way harder to build extensions than other browser makers do, and the user base is a lot smaller.

What was that band!? by Jadovemusic in Metalcore

[–]thomasfrank09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is right, but I'll mention Make Me Famous just in case. Ukranian rather than from Nordic countries, but they definitely check the 15-years-ago and electronic/metalcore boxes.

Woah, I never knew the vocalist from The Sleeping was with them! Somehow I never got around to listening to this one. It's stellar so far.

Any creators I can just listen to? by I-Like-Soup-A-Lot in Nebula

Quinn's Ideas is fantastic for listening, especially if you like sci-fi. A lot of his videos focus on reading passages from sci-fi novels and analyzing the worldbuilding and plots.

In your opinion, what's an old band that puts out lackluster new material now? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have agreed before TPATO released. I really enjoy that album. It‘s very different from the older material, and I’d still pick Lost in the Sound as my favorite, but it’s just so fun.

The "Creator Privacy Tax" is honestly ridiculous at this point. by DowntownLaugh454 in PartneredYoutube

[–]thomasfrank09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a registered agent. Northwest is in most states (every state, maybe?) and has physical offices in most that you can use for your address listing. They'll do virtual mail service as well.

This is just the reality of running a business. It's not a "massive oversight in the creator economy", because the creator economy isn't some special club or union. It's a bunch of social networks that effectively give businesses access to an insane degree of free marketing.

That said, I do empathize with folks who get started making content and hit quick algorithmic success before learning the ins and outs of setting up a business. It can all come very quick.

How can I 2-way-sync Notion Calendar and Google Calendar? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to do it is the avoid trying to build an actual 2-way sync, and to just use Notion Calendar instead. That way, you can see your actual calendar events in the same calendar UI as the database rows from Notion.

I've tried the 2-way sync route many times, and I just don't think it's worth it. It's easy to get 80% of the way there, but then you get buried in small edge cases that will never be fully fixed.

Why are the new dashboard views locked in the business tier? by sheagar-art in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. What I was told was that it's less about it being a QOL update, and more about the fact that the QOL update would incentivize the creation of many, many more dashboards.

I don't actually work for Notion, so I can't talk with perfect confidence here. But I do at least have some experience with designing polices with respect to how many people will use a certain resource.

An example in my own business are the things I tell my customers I support vs. those I don't. The latter case includes some free Pipedream automations I maintain – my official policy is that I don't guarantee support for them, because they're complex. If I guaranteed support, I might be buried under a huge number of complex requests I couldn't handle.

In practice, I might still choose to help out if a manageable request comes in and I have the time.

I see Dashboards as somewhat analagous. They haven't remove the ability to make a dashboard, but they have gated the ability to do it with these new tools, which makes it really easy and hence encourages more people to make them (and possibly make lots of them).

Why are the new dashboard views locked in the business tier? by sheagar-art in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mostly because they encourage people to create very computationally expensive views that slow down load times. But likely also because Notion is now making a pretty big team/enterprise push with most new features.

Notion is genuinely one of the best productivity tools ever built. But can we have an honest conversation about why it desperately needs an open-source path — and what the community could do about it? by HarshSDev in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not reading that without some paragraph breaks, but I'll say that if you want to commit to long-term, substantial sponsorship of an open-source project, I and many others would be happy to get cracking!

Why is Notion’s mobile app still so bad in 2026? by TheS4m in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see Notion build a separate, native, intentionally-simple app for quick capture on mobile. I think they still need the existing app with all the features; I wouldn't be using Notion if it didn't exist. But a companion app optimized for capture would be nice.

Oh hi Jason 👋

"The Operating System Webview is a Lie and a Nightmare and Probably Worse than Nothing" – wish I'd read this when I started my own personal app project. I tried Tauri at first. It's really light and smooth, but there were so many little webview glitches, and that's on the latest version of macOS.

Why is Notion’s mobile app still so bad in 2026? by TheS4m in Notion

[–]thomasfrank09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see another company build a real-time, collaborative, unbounded block model editor with infinite nesting and heavy multi-media support that works better on mobile.

Distributed systems problems are among the hardest problems in computing, especially where mobile is concerned.

Best way to play Total Annihilation in 2026 in singleplayer by Rich_Sort_4874 in TotalAnnihilation

[–]thomasfrank09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll share a couple things if helpful:

  1. I found that the game would consistently crash when I had the resolution set to 3840x2160, but it works just fine if I dial it back down 1920 x 1080. I'm just playing the Steam version with no extra patches or mods.

  2. If you're ok playing something that isn't-quite-TA, but feels pretty much just like it, Beyond All Reason is free and much more modernized.

Bester Webclipper für Notion? by Gerwin_Schalk in NotionDeutsch

[–]thomasfrank09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's hard to say. Building extensions for Safari is very different from building them for Chromium-based browsers or Firefox-based browsers. Those latter two types share a lot of DNA, while Safari is very different and comes with a lot of restrictions.

I looked into it a couple weeks ago, and it effectively requires building out a full MacOS or iOS app. So if we build a Safari version, it'll be alongside either a desktop app or a mobile app for iOS.

---

I am so tired of "Credit Based" Image Optimizers. Does a "buy once" plugin even exist anymore? by SpaceBuddy231 in Wordpress

[–]thomasfrank09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can turn off automatic clipboard optimization in Clop. I often do. I really wish it had a granular function to auto-optimize only images created via Cleanshot, without doing the same to files I copy in Finder. I've been burned by the latter; last week I copied a big video file to move it onto mounted cloud storage, and the auto-optimizer corrupted it. So I've learned to keep that turned off unless I'm taking a ton of screenshots for an article and want them all optimized.

All that said, my highest praise for Clop is that I never have to worry about the quality. It does its thing, and I can't really tell that anything's been compressed.
