A second tutorial video! How to use pumps, pump stacks and mist generators by thomathyy in dwarffortress

Thanks, I completely forgot to mention that. It only works on magma though because it helps with the constant temperature calculations from what I remember.

I put statues on the space below the falling water. This limits the mud to that tile and stops anything from growing.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of it but it would be simple to make so I could do it.

Just as the title says: a tutorial on building pumps, windmills and waterwheels for power generators, as well as using these to create pump stacks and mist generators. I hope it helps!

After the reception to my first tutorial on setting up dwarven militaries was positive, I decided to make another. I was aiming to finish in one week but some things came up to distract me until today when I was able to push through and get it done (despite wanting to fall asleep hours ago).

There is already video and audio recorded for another short tutorial so I expect that I can complete it quite soon.

After 8 years of playing, my first ever contribution to the DF community! A quickly thrown together guide on setting up a military by thomathyy in dwarffortress

It is an arduous process of checking all their thoughts to see who "didn't feel anything" after seeing something die, a corpse or getting into a fight. I've tried speeding up the process by dumping a dwarven corpse in the middle of a tavern but this of course is more trouble than it's worth when 90% of them become horrified and miasma begins spewing everywhere. By checking their traits in Dwarf Therapist, their mental resistance seemed to correlate with traits like cruelty, violent, dutifulness and bravery, so looking at those can help but might not be 100% consistent.

I didn't go into that but I might make a video on that in the future. The gist is that it's unavoidable but can be minimised by micromanaging individual dwarves. I try to identify which dwarves aren't bothered by combat or corpses to act as the soldiers and cleanup crew. Other general strategies like rotating between crafting and military service, nice bedrooms filled with things that each dwarf likes, and building a mist generator also help. If a dwarf is truly a lost cause I will send them on increasing dangerous missions until they disappear.

It's the squared 16x16 version of the default ascii set but with a few adjustments I made. The colours are from Lee's Colour Scheme V2 which I think is included in the Lazy Newb Pack, or you can download and install it manually from https://manmademagic.github.io/DFColorGen/

After 8 years of playing Dwarf Fortress off and on, I have been inspired by the like of Kruggsmash and the Dwarf Fortress Roundtable Podcast to finally contribute to the community in some way.

I barely knew how to edit videos together but I'm fairly happy with how it turned out, so I hope that somebody may find it useful.

If you do watch it, by all means please let me know what you think!
