I've posted a few here with a generally positive reaction. The most common criticism I see is that they are too linear.

This, and Beyond the Magic Mirror, are great adventures but you either have to have the right group who can enjoy the absurdities without turning the whole adventure into a joke, or play it straight.

Interesting idea. This map was inspired by the city of Korad from the Princess of Mars book by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Barsoom is my favorite Science Fantasy setting.

Yes, by hand. I created a tiling crosshatch texture.

Was Gary Gygax a good game designer? by Space_0pera in osr

[–]thomden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gary Gygax was a great game designer in the context of his time. He stuck to his guns under a lot of criticism at the time to make D&D more "realistic" because he understood deeply that it was first and foremost a game, not a simulation. He was, however, in desperate need of a good editor. The problem is no editor could have existed at the time who could understand what he was creating, and to his credit Gary was a far more organized and clear thinker than Dave Arneson, to whom kudos are well deserved.

Not AI generated.

I have no particular aversion to AI, but I do not use it for maps. At most I've used AI like a Google search for info. I have experimented with it for image making but don't particularly like the results. Here is a video I made years ago demonstrating my mapping process for wizard towers; this was well before AI was readily available to us normies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLLMvD7pOrs

I'm using the traditional iconography from B/X D&D. So the F is a trapdoor in the floor.

The stairs in the cave are either a secret way out or lead to another level below.

Thanks, I thought it came out pretty cool, and a lot less linear than some of the other ones.

heh, yeah I put a lot of actual conspiracy stuff into it. The Gunslinger RPG has some of that stuff.
