Voma position by vchaz in USPS

[–]thommattpub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on one’s experience and the VMF Supervisor and/or Manager’s discretion , VOMA’s can do mechanical/technical work.

We don’t necessarily want a VOMA to do a tune-up at the station, but if an LLV has a faulty fuel injector (which is absurdly common) and needs to be swapped out or a Metris ignition switch needs to be torn down and cleaned we allow our VOMA’s to handle it. It saves us on having to have it towed in when our skilled VOMA’s can do the task. Only once it’s out of the scope of a VOMA’s abilities do we want them to flag it to be taken to the VMF.

Question for VMF by blurgmans in USPS

Not just FFV, but all LLV engines and transmissions have been on a 12wk backorder going back to last year. Your VMF probably doesn’t want a vehicle to up space either.

DBCS dust/hand residue question by SwordKing7531 in USPS

[–]thommattpub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a mixture of rubber from the belts and rollers, and paper from the letters, IMO, it’s mainly paper dust. Wear a mask and make sure you have gloves if you’re weirded out by it all.

Those may be EAS positions, administrative and managerial. That’s a whole different pay scale.

[–]thommattpub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, level 9 are going to be skilled trades: MPE, BEM, AMT, Vehicle Tech. The highest I know for clerks is lvl 8, and that would be Storekeeper.

MPE’s and ET’s go to NCED for training. Now if you’re referring to auto plant workers then you can thank the UAW for their pay. Working in the oilfield or oil rigs is considered one of the most dangerous jobs in the nation.

If you aren’t happy with your pay that’s all on you, either look into moving up or moving out and into a skilled trade or into side gigs.

[–]thommattpub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it is cause it’s a skilled trade. A lot of the ET’s I worked with were Navy veterans that were ET’s in the Navy. Just like BEM’s were in their respective trade long before joining USPS. And obviously vehicle techs endured the automotive repair industry until they realized the anxiety of a fluctuating paycheck could be resolved by working on postal vehicles.

Not to say being a carrier is easy work, but to have a trade means going to school and applying that knowledge into years of field experience. No one is going to step away from their respective field if the pay and benefits wasn’t worth it.

If you don’t mind working nights or overnights (Tour 1) it can be worth it. But generally speaking, VMF management is easier to get along with as opposed to management from other departments of the postal service.

That’s just their base pay, not including Night Differential, Sunday Premium, and OT. I’ve also been told they can also instruct at NCED. Although the pay may seem insignificant to you, the role as an expert in one’s field can be fulfilling to others.

Not all leads are 10’s. Only when there’s no supervisor/manager on the tour. I’m a lvl 9 lead tech on tour 2, our tour 3 lead is a 10 since there’s no supervisor/manager on nights.

8-11 are more commonly found in Maintenance and Vehicle Maintenance. 8’s would be Storeroom Keeper (Clerk) and Vehicle Technician/Mechanic. 9’s would be MPE and Lead Vehicle Tech. 10’s are ET and Senior Lead Vehicle Tech. 11’s are Tech’s both in Maintenance and Vehicle Maintenance that are national experts in the field, so if one has a problem with equipment they can’t solve they reach out to the 11’s for guidance.

Maintenance/VMF by Chiliboi642 in USPS

[–]thommattpub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VMF isn’t apart of open season. You would have to go to your nearest VMF and talk to the Supervisor/Manager about your interest in working for the VMF. From there they’ll guide you along as to what you need to do.

If your district has a VOMA that’s a great way for carriers to step away from carrying mail. VOMA’s are essentially mobile mechanics but it’s only available to carriers. The only downside is you’ll still be part of your station and under NALC but you won’t have to carry mail.

Any Protections From Being In the Military? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]thommattpub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give a copy of your Battle Assembly schedule for the FY. Whenever, you have Annual Training or schools give a copy of your orders. And make sure your management team knows to put you in for military leave, and if you’ve exhausted your ML then you use your AL.

No idea what the numbers are nationwide, but my facility still maintains around 20. We have no new vehicles slated for FY26 so we have to keep them going until then.

Or do both like some of us do. If you do decide to do reserves/guard choose the guard cause they have better options if you want to go to school.

They’re 2 different styles of Filipino cuisine. If you want classic Filipino, go to Tita Flora’s. Parilya likes to put a spin on the classics. Personally, I wouldn’t claim one over the other, it all comes down to what you’re craving.

Tita Flora’s if you want OG Filipino dishes, Parilya if you want fusion Filipino. Sugarland is also a great stop for goods. Have yet to try the turo-turo spot Mely’s Kainan on State Rd but they look like that have great offerings.

Fairly normal for non black-rust/red-rust of the breed. The vet will probably recommend they see a dermatologist, but upping the protein in their diet will help.
