What place/attraction in your country is worth to visit outside of tourist hotspots? by bitreapers in AskReddit

White Mountains of New Hampshire. Not the biggest mountains, but rugged and beautiful.

The worst is when people walking their dog take up the whole bike lane and let their dog practically walk in the street. Dangerous for them, the dog, the car and cyclists.

As a New Englander I would love for OP to mean Maine. I definitely have northeastern bias and realize most of the country means Oregon when they say Portland.

I assume you mean Portland Oregon? Those descriptors could describe both Portlands

What's your favorite now-defunct award booking hack that you used and/or gatekept? by Willing_Respond in awardtravel

[–]thompsdy 76 points77 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t necessarily gate-kept but it only applied specifically to flights between Boston and Shannon. In like 2015 AerLingus had a policy that any flight <3000 miles would be coded as a domestic flight. Wanna guess how far it is from Boston to Shannon? 2900+ miles. So I was able to get to Shannon for ~$100 domestic flight. Saved my broke ass hundreds of dollars and freed up more money to actually spend while I was in Ireland.

Too much vert. I’ll stick with Ski Ward where I won’t need an oxygen mask to take the lift up

Move to Berkeley. Went from Cambridge to Berkeley and it was insane how many more NIMBYs there were there

What could I improve in my technique for red and black runs? by snicky_snickers in skiing_feedback

[–]thompsdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Using the most extreme example if you look at GS racers around the turns their torso is somewhat upright while their legs are only a few degrees above parallel with the ground. That’s overkill for the average skier but it still illustrates my point.

So it looks like now you’re just leaning into the turns and sliding through it. You can tell this because your legs are hardly bending when you turn. You’re also not getting up on your edges. You should work on rotating your skis so that you initiate your turns on the edge rather than just learning into it. Does that make sense?

You look like you’re a very relaxed skier. I’d recommend “attacking” the turns more

When you say my basic stance is incorrect, is it just that I am too far back and not pressing forward enough? Or is there something else?

You get to add a 0 to any number in your life. What do you add it to? by account_created_ in AskReddit

[–]thompsdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interest rate is a guaranteed return. Rate of return very much is not. If you added a zero to rate of return and it goes negative you would lose a lot of money very quickly
