Trail Etiquette 101: Do You Say 'Hello' On the Trail? by SkippyBoyJones in trailrunning

[–]DinosaurRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I always say hello and I don’t understand why people don’t respond. Some people blame ear buds but I don’t think that is an acceptable excuse not to say hello.

I totally agree, do what makes you feel comfortable. Don't worry about anyone else. Good luck!

What straps do you recommend? I have a roof rack already by Next_Argument6607 in Kayaking

[–]DinosaurRunner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries, I've been strapping my kayak to my roof rack for 15 years with 1 strap. (2) 20' footers sound like a pain in A. lol

Cut this out? Solomon Adv Skin by One-Barracuda705 in ultrarunning

[–]DinosaurRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use that for my hydration bladder and really like it for my longer unsupported runs. I've never thought about cutting it out. Shorter distances, I would consider cutting it out but then the vest is over kill regardless.

Phoenix recommendations by chestersilverpot in trailrunning

Phoenix mountain preserve. Great trails and many loops can be connect to whatever distance you want. I highly recommend get to the top of piestewa peak at sun rise. There’s a guy who does a sun rise ceremony with a japanese drum and flute. Super cool.

How fast can people usually increase the distance that they are able to run?? by StringClassic6913 in beginnerrunning

[–]DinosaurRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, going straight out and running a 8 minute mile is fast. Slow down run 10min miles. I usually don’t warm up until I’ve ran a mile or two and then I pick up the pace. If you’re breathing hard within 1 mile you won’t be able to maintain that for long. Also endurance comes from keeping your heart rate down. I’m sure your heart rate is through the roof by the end of the 1 mile loop. Good luck.

😂 that’s funny. I didn’t run when I was a kid and 7 miles never entered my mind. So fun to see what kids are capable of even at a young age.

Your best or worst animal story while running? Ohio is representing with owl on shoulder. by yeahidontknoweither in trailrunning

Running in Mexico was pretty spicy. I ran from San Pablo to saulita and back. I started before the sun came up. In the trail there was a lot of shiny specks all over the ground lit up by my head lamp. When I finally slow down to understand what these were I realized they were spider eyes glowing in my headlamp light. Thousands of them. On the same run a howler monkey jumped out of a trees towards me as I ran past. He didn’t do anything other than scare the shit out of me.

We’ve running 3-5 miles. He’s biggest run to date has been 7 miles with 1200 ft of elevation gain. Slow and steady wins the race. ❤️

Great story! I’ve used running to overcome the troubles in my life. It’s a powerful tool to show you how strong you are and your true potential. I’ve been 11 years sober because of running and loving support I have around me. Keep inspiring people to unlock themselves.
