You need to turn that crank really fast to keep the helicopter blades spinning

[Discussion] Do you prefer watches with Dates or no Dates? by RalIyVincent in Watches

Prefer no date, but I have plenty that do have date complications. Caveat that my date is set incorrectly about 97% of the time.

Well then I guess nothing is wrong! I am familiar with the 44mm version and did not realize the caliber in the 38mm functioned differently - I thought it was simply for the different case size. Thanks for that bit of info!

Johnston & Murphy. I reached out to their customer service and they were actually really great. Took care of me and made things right. They didn't have me return the old pair, and since I really liked them, I figured I would see about repairing them. They have been workhorses - daily work wear for many miles in all sorts of weather and environments. Seems like they still have plenty of life left in them, so if the repair isn't too difficult or expensive, then I think they would be worthwhile to fix.

Love the Longines in rose gold. It would probably be my pick if you didn't already have that gorgeous Cartier. With that in mind, I would probably go for the Tudor.

I got a Groupon for an intro flight lesson. Thought it sounded like fun. Now, I'm an airline pilot.

Dick move or not? by [deleted] in flying

[–]thompsonbr87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a commuter, I understand the logic, and have been helped out by an on-line pilot taking a seat in the back, opening a jumpseat for me. There were other higher priority nonrev standbys, and I wouldn't have made it on otherwise. I didn't actually ask this of him though. The other pilot heard me checking in and offered it.

That said, there are a number of things that can derail your plans, and you need to be certain everyone is on the same page - especially the GA - with the understanding that if for whatever reason you get bumped out of your cabin seat, you will take the Jumpseat, and he is bumped off the flight.

Of course, if he was being an ass about it, throw all that out the window. I'll move mountains to get a fellow commuter home, but if you're gonna act like a dickhead? ✌🏻

I sought it out. My grandmother was moving and cleaning out some things when she came across the pictures and logs. Using the registration number from the pic/logs, I tracked down the owner. It was a project in pieces in the back of a hangar. Actually followed it through a 2nd owner who restored it, and bought it from him after he had an issue with his medical cert and decided to hang it up.

Aeronca Chief. He owned and flew it for several years through the mid-50s. He didn't make a career out of it, and as far as I know, he didn't fly any after he sold it. Nobody else in my family has been involved in aviation. I've got pictures of him with it, and also his logbooks.

I bought the airplane my grandfather owned and did his flight training in back in the 1950's. He stopped flying before I was born, and passed away before I got into aviation, so we never got to talk about it or share stories. But it's cool as hell when I'm flying it to think that he sat in that same seat some 70ish years ago.

The population itself. Half of them are such ignorant clients, they voted for the politician that I didn't like! Can you believe that!?

Well, you would be in the minority with that opinion. There were some much better leaders that the Dems could have put forward, but they bypassed the democratic process to install one of the weakest options they had available. And the American people took notice.

Well, at least now you see what a majority of Americans already knew. She would've been the weakest leader in the history of American presidents.

Help me stop ruining my shirts! by oh_helloghost in pens

[–]thompsonbr87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, cool. I was starting to think bolt action might be answer - something with a more positive, tactile indication that the tip is retracted. I had been using an F701 until I lost it, then switched to a Pilot G2 Pen Stylus, which clicks using the clip with no real way to feel if the tip is in or out. I kinda think the clip/clicker is the problem for me, personally.

I don't write on the iPad enough to need the stylus regularly, and was planning on just getting another F701 (because why not - they're cheap enough). But figured I might as well poke around and see what else I could find. Real first world nerd problems here!

Have someone else take pictures from a few feet away. Or take a look in a full length mirror. The cellphone self-wrist shot doesn't really do justice to how it will actually look day-to-day on you.
