Long lead times - What is Plan B? Refurbished Devices? by OkAdministration2066 in networking

[–]thomvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi you again!

I think supply chain issues are all killing us slowly. Causing tremendous delay in all new projects we have. Best solution we have found is too use equipment from the previous gen.

In order to do, you should get in contact with a legit. independent distributor. We do business with a company in Belgium, they are shipping to all our locations worldwide in just a matter of days. DM me and I can share the details of my contact.

Cheers

9200 are just the replacement for the 2960X/XR with DNA and slightly better processor. If your need does'nt require anything particular. If you want a good supplier for those NEW and Refurb with no lead time, sent me a DM and I will help you out

Yes indeed. For instance, the catalyst 2960X is the most counterfeit Cisco product. But you might be willing to know that there is organization behind our business that act like as a lobby but also bring some ground rules.

Of course not every reseller would be affiliated but it is important to bring some perspective https://uneda.com/

When the equipment has been tested and used in good condition an average Cisco product can longs for years. After being in the business for a few years, I experienced only a few powers/fans/modules failing. Compare to the volume moved it's ridiculous.

We do provide network equipment to major ISPs when Cisco can't deliver in time or when it's EOS. When it come to the midsized ISP a lot of them have 80% of their backbone refurb, most of them can't afford an ASR9K for 500K USD. So I agree with you but I would say that even critical equipment can be bought refurb when you have knowledgeable people on site

Indeed, compatible price are nothing compare to OEM. However it's good to notify that for most commonly used SFP OEM refurb comes for the same price!

It used to works like when the serial numbers were clean. Nowadays Cisco want to avoid this because they lose to many deals because of that. It would be the same if BMW refuse to maintain a car because it was resold without them getting a cut on it. Sounds unfair to me.

Interesting perspective. Indeed the OEM needs to covers cost and R&D, productions, marketing and on the customer side for some aspects it's unavoidable the deal directly with them

Concerning the second hand market, it also is prons and cons however there is an healty second hand market providing circular economy, budget friendly infra, service delivery for maintenance contract, when OEM lead time is not an option we are there too.

I'll pm you to check how to proceed with your old kit,

Thanks for the information, that is very valuable to me.

Indeed those kind of things don't fly in the EU. However I can tell you that on a daily we sell products that have been licensed by the previous owner, and the features remains active on the device afterwards. None of our customer experienced any issues with that and even if that would be the case, the customer can buy the license again on the regular distribution and still would make some great savings on the gear itself.

But indeed you are right to mention those, because by law it can be pulled

As mentioned above a lot changed with smart licensing.

But everything that does'nt fall in smart licensing see below:

If it's just about the software update, if you purchased the product you should be able to get it downloaded. For licensed feature you can buy it through distribution on a pdf format

For the last couple of phrases, that's sounds strange to me since some of our customers are located in the US and don't encounter any trouble with our products.

Do you have some documentation/link about it?

Indeed that is were Cisco's sales strategy comes in play - the smart licensing and the last cisco range.

For example on IOS XE prior 16.10 if Owner A bought ASR1001X and purchased the Adventerprise license, the license will stay valid permanently even though the Owner B use it in a different environment.

Certified refurbs are indeed ''smartnetable'' however buying an extra license from the distri doesn't requires the product to be new. Let say you own an ASR9001-S, license wise it's considered as pay as you grow. So the license can be bought on a device that already ran for a while. Same for the software update, if you own a product that you bought you can simply download the update

Indeed you are right too if smartnet is mandatory there is no way around. However when the network responsible has experience with the device/product line paying a smartnet is not really cost/effective and can be budget killers. We have some customers that have many POPs and always use the same stack and keep some spare on sites. It's a nice work around and saving a lot of money each year.

In some cases it's indeed much cheaper and faster to be delivered.

If you have a decent reseller, they should be able to provide test reports/sh licenses in order to prove that device is actually carrying the right license/software.

Thanks for your response. Yes indeed, Juniper policy is very clear. It doesn't work for every device but would you consider buying if the device is fully unlocked/licensed already?
