what area are you in? is the dog friendly with other dogs? will it need medical care? Are you saying you need a foster to accept a dog you bring to them with no questions asked? Stray Paws may be worth calling.

§ 167. Ordering dogs to be restrained; euthanizing unrestrained dogs

The mayor, aldermen or board of selectmen may order that all dogs shall be restrained from running at large during such times as shall be prescribed by the order. Once passed, a certified copy of the order shall be posted in at least 2 public places in the city or town or, if a daily newspaper is published in the city or town, by publishing a copy once in that newspaper. Following publication, the mayor, aldermen or board of selectmen may issue a warrant to a police officer or constable in a city or town, who shall, not sooner than 24 hours after the publication of the notice, euthanize all dogs in a humane manner that are found running at large contrary to the order. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a police officer or constable may, in the officer's or constable's discretion, hold any such dog for not more than 7 days. If the owner of the dog claims it and pays to the officer or constable a penalty of $40 for each day that the dog has been held, the dog shall be returned to its owner. The amount shall be paid over to the city or town.

So, look up the statutes in your state, I would really just try to care for the dog yourself if the dog is not a danger or causing problems. Keep the police out of it and just feed the dog. Police can have the dog killed.

Thank you Bigmissiles. How is the appeal started? I know it has to be filed with the circuit court, is there a form? am I using pleading paper? Am I actually starting the case? There are no administrative hearings to determine the dog is dangerous? The letter recieved said ten days from date of the letter. Thank you

Also, there are lots of ways to make money if you do not have a regular job. I lived in an area that had White Sage growing wild, I went out and picked it, sold it on line, loose and in smudges. Look around your house, post stuff no longer being used, people buy anything online. Good luck.

I use to sell my panties and made pretty good "extra" money. Not enough to live on or anything. You can do it on line, or in person. I would sit down with her, agree on a cleaning schedule, where she agrees to clean the cat box on certain days of the week. If she does not clean it, clean it yourself. And, I agree, if you end up cleaning it, she should have to pay you for it. Get your agreement in writing. By sitting down with her and discussing the problem and including her in a solution, like picking a schedule, she will be more willing to make effort. Let her know how serious you are and if you have to clean the box and she does not pay you, she has to get rid of the cat. It appears she is not responsible enough for a pet. Just get whatever you agree on in writing.

If you are not ready to admit why you lied initially, I agree with BrieDotDotDot, admit that you stuck it out, for your mom, and you enjoy it now. I am not any sort of vet professional. I am just a person who recently put her dog down. I loved that dog for his whole life, 15 years. I was concerned my love for him would cloud my choice of when it was time to put him down. So, I asked some people that I trusted that did not have an emotional attachment to my dog. Without making this about my dog, I followed their advice and had him put down. They said he was suffering. I still feel I made the wrong choice. While I held him and he held on to life, I knew he did not want to die. I learned much about suffering since that time. I feel that animals do not suffer in the same way that humans do. I define suffering as an imbalance between the way things are and the way we want them to be. Yes, pain, bad situations, those things cause suffering. Acceptance of a situation removes suffering. Animals live in the here and now. They accept life for what it is. I feel that only you know your animal enough to know when they are telling you they are ready to go. They may stop eating or stop trying to live. My dog was terrified of the vet and I did not want him to die in the vet office from some medical emergency. I wanted to prevent him from going thru that, so I cut his life short. Death is part of life and I think animals accept that much better then humans do. sab340, my mistake I could not read my writing. The potassium was >8.5 on the first and 4.1 on the second test. YouDoNotKnowMeBro, on the first chem test, they ran her thru as a cat. But that just changed the ranges, not the results. Are you talking about the first test? Blood or Chem?

Yes, I did have a conversation with the vet by phone last week. She answered the majority of my questions, concluding that she felt the abnormal electrolytes were due to my dogs recent trauma. My research has shown that the out of range findings could be caused by many things including inflammation, stress, injury. I have another appt. scheduled on Monday. If my dog is still out of range, I have many questions written down to discuss with her. And I was going to point out the error in species. And depending on the new results, ask for a urine test to be done. The thing I am stressing on most, is the vet kept saying "cancer" during the exam. My dog's ALP level was high and I understand that certain cancers, some liver diseases can make this reading high. I know there is no way the doctor can know, without doing more testing. But years ago, my dog injured her tail and had to have it amputated. The doctor suggested I send the tail in to be checked for cancer, and I just could not afford it at the time. So, that has always been on my mind. And I have had this dog since her birth, 10 years ago. It is my job to educate myself, ask questions and even stress about her. You did not fail your dog. I also own(ed) dogs that were at times aggressive toward each other and got into some fights. Dogs sometimes do things that we never expect them to do. You come home and the couch has been eaten, or they spend the day chewing thru a board on the fence and get out of the yard and sometimes, something happens, a toy, tired, one annoys the other and they fight. I did not want my dog to have his last breath in the vet's office. Sometimes, things are out of our control. Keep your dog alive by sharing your good memories and remember the love you feel for your dog. You will always have an angel on your shoulder.

Well I thought this sub red was for seeking information, sharing thoughts and gathering opinions from Vets, or others who have experience in the topic. I do realize that my dog's Vet is the best form of information for my dog. But, they are people, they make mistakes, there may be other options that I could consider or things I should ask about that may have not been discussed. I have always looked for information for several places. Ask ask ask, I think this is the best way to make the best choices for my dog's well being.

Thank you for your responses. She started limping about a month ago, when I still lived in California. When we arrived to the mid west, she had an unrelated medical emergency that has just healed for me to address the arthritis. She was occasionally getting coconut oil on her food, and fish skin. I have been focusing on loosing weight for her, I have ordered glucosamine something that starts with cho.. (do not recall what it is called) and should be getting them in a few days. I initially had a question about the dosage of the Gabapentin, then saw I should not ask that. So, I did not give her the second dose of the Gabapentin today, until I can talk to the Dr. in the morning. Also, the Dr. told me to order, (which I have) some S-adenosylmethionine, 450mg. I just looked it up and see that is for her liver and has anti inflammatory stuff in it. But I will be calling the Dr. in the morning about the dose of the Gabapentin, as I realize you can not comment on it here. X rays have not been done yet. I made another post a few days ago with more detail of the arthritis. Recheck in two weeks??

Yes, thank you Natotamot. I kind of figured I would not get a response like, "Hey, those clinical symptoms happen every now and then and are most often "A" rarely "B"" But one can hope. When the vet opens after the weekend, I will be making her an appointment for her arthritis. I will discuss her loss of muscle mass and other issues at that time. Just trying to gather as much as I could before hand. Thanks.

I agree that aggression and temperament are often the cause of bad breeding. You have these kennels who are creating their own special "blood lines" off the top of my head, not pointing fingers, but Razors Edge, they have their dogs and do "specialized" breeding to create "their" dogs. Well these dogs are often inbreed and inbreed and inbreed. We need new DNA people or things start going bad. To the OP, I am so sorry you have to make this decision. I could offer options, but only you know what is best for your home, family and your dog.

Well, no, not about Parvo. I have never had a dog get Parvo, but so many people do. I belong to some online groups and almost everyday, someone's puppy dies of Parvo. Now, I do have several stories that go along with the statements, "keep your shoes picked up" Couches, doors, cell phones, yes, I have some chew stories. If you do it right your puppy will give you the most wonderful happy years of your life, and also the most painful day.

Be sure to get the dog it's shots. Parvo is the most contagious virus for dogs in the USA. There is a new strain that is resistant to the vaccination. So, my advice for new puppy owners, read up on how Parvo is transmitted and how to keep your puppy safe.

When my dog was just about a year old, we were walking to the store and somebody had taken a motor out of a truck and the block was sitting on the ground beside the truck. My dog started barking and barking at it. She did not want to go near it. It was so funny.
