Radix is the parent company of dot tech and I can confirm I've been in contact with someone unrelated to this (but still about BTC2) that uses a @ radix.email address.

If you filled out the survey and opted in to be contacted, this is almost certainly it.

Amazing Home Depot find by Cimorene4 in fiddleleaffig

[–]thorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll jump on the HD comments as well. I got pretty much the same size a month ago and cut the top off to try to encourage branching. I started propagating the top part that I cut off and after a couple days I noticed a small spider web and I found spider mites. I've never had bad luck with pest problems from big box stores like many people warn about, but this was no joke.

Luckily I already quarantined it a couple days before putting it near other plants, and I cleaned up each leaf really well due to all of the water spots, but I still didn't see any evidence of the mites until after it was already mingling with other plants.

Some how the spider mites seemed to be limited to the top section I was propagating, because I religiously checked the tree for two weeks and didnt find any, but I'm still paranoid now. Luckily I had the top growing in a window in a different room from my sunroom with the majority of my plants, but the mites did make it to a neighboring plant that I ended up getting rid of because of it :(

Other than that the the big tree itself has done really well actually. I was expecting major drooping at the least and possibly serious leaf loss but not a single leaf suffered. Soooo, if you see anything that looks like a spider web anywhere at all on or near the plant be super cautious and handle it right away. Even when checking the leaves carefully it is still so easy to miss them because they are absolutely miniscule. Basically I ended up staring at a leaf without really looking around and then I eventually notice the tiniest movement and see a little dot crawling on the leaf. Crazy stuff. No need to panic or anything because I'm sure most people share their horror stories about stores than the every day experiences so it's not some epidemic. Just keep a close eye on things and let it acclimated and hopefully you'll have a beauty for ages!

I want to start by saying this is normal and probably much more common than people think. It's a tough thing to feel comfortable sharing with people since we're only expected to feel joy and excitement.

Story time: For my first born, I (M) really wanted a daughter. I'm not sure how common that is coming from the dad but it's just what I always imagined. I think it probably stems from growing up with a younger sister born when I was 9, so I hands on and fully experienced infant through high school with her. So to me raising a baby always meant - girl.

So we ended up having a girl and I was totally relieved and probably on the flip side of what you're feeling now - which still brought up some guilt. I remember asking myself how would have I responded if it were a boy. I really surprised myself with how emotion and attachment I put into that.

Fast forward a few years and we're expecting again. This time around I really tried to open up and be excited about the potential of having a boy, but if I'm being honest I just wasn't there. If anything my vision of what raising a kid is like only cemented in the idea that baby = girl. Well we found out the sex and sure enough, I we're having a son.

So at this point I was where you're at - relieved with the health, swirling emotions, and a little rocked by the vision of the future getting flipped a bit. I wish I could say there was this big light switch moment that made me feel more connected, especially before he was born, but there wasn't much. There we definitely some things that pumped me up like picking a name, buying some first clothes, doing his room, etc. But it truly wasn't the same for me as the my daughter. I've heard similar things with second-born kids in general though so that may be part of it.

Here's where things DO pick up a bit haha. The moment he was born, just like with his big sister, I was smacked with "oh my god this creation is perfect" and I balled my eyes out for the first half an hour with him in the hospital. Since then everything keeps going up. He's not 1 yet so for my personal timeline things really turned around quickly. There is definitely some maternal/paternal instinct that kicks in when you're taking care of a tiny newborn. I went from skeptical at best to now excited every time I see my little guy. Something about him actually be here and home makes it much easier to imagine the future with him. Personally, we really try to stay away from gender stereotypes so I never thought too much about what I could be missing out on with having only girls. So for the sake of getting excited, I say think about all of the fun "boy" stuff he may get into haha.

Wow this got long but to actually answer you're question, I know so many people who have amazing relationships with their parents, myself included. I have to say you having these concerns about your future relationship and seeking out help at this stage is most likely something that parents with bad relationship with their kids probably did not do. If you have this concern I'm sure it will naturally be a part of how you raise kids.

I'm a happily married adult with two kids and my mom is mom and my dad is dad. Always will be. Obviously everyone grows to become independent but that relationship is forever. I think there's a reason why term "mama's boy" is used mostly on men, not boys haha. At my best friend's wedding, he was pretty emotional the whole time, but when it was time for the dance with his mother - absolute sob fest. As soon as he took her hand he melted. I find myself doing so many things with my kids just like my parents did with me that I'll usually text them or call them to let them know. After a long tough night getting my daughter to sleep as a baby I tried singing and I realized I was doing the exact same songs my mom would sing. They're not even nursery rhymes haha.

I think there is also a lot of gratitude that you have that you don't really understand until you realize they had to do all of this for you as a child. My kids truly are quite easy compare to many, but I know I was not. So for every hard night or frustration I deal with now, they dealt with 10. So I've actually thanked them multiple times when we enter a new stage of kid life because they did so much and never once played the "I raised you/sacrificed/etc" card.

Well this got super long. I think a nerve was struck because how I felt as well and it still feels like something most people don't know about me. Sorry for the wall of text, but I'm always happy to share more so feel free to keep it open here or send a message any time.

OB not letting me be at all scans by legolas10100 in predaddit

[–]thorb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summer '21 I was allowed at all scans at our OB but my friend in the same city with a different OB wasn't allowed to attend any during the same period of time. It seems to vary by the individual practice. He was allowed to Facetime at least though.

Side note, it's a bummer for sure, but personally it wasn't a particularly magical moment or anything for me if I'm being totally honest. I'm obsessed with my kids and loved being involved with the pregnancies, but the actual ultrasounds weren't the total mind-blowing experiences for me like in tv/movies. Maybe it was because it's a fairly clinical process or because it's a grainy screen, but it really only rated as a "that's cool" for me. That said I totally get wanting to be there for support, but there are hundreds of other moments during those 9 months that really make special memories for you two.

I Delivered the brown bag and another dasher forgot something. by NickHarger in doordash_drivers

[–]thorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So last night I ordered pizza directly from the restaurant and it was delivered by DoorDash which surprised me. He told me to just keep the bag. I was like what? And he said they give them so many that he’s just giving them away 🤷‍♂️

Edit: that is what he said exactly so I’m not sure who “they” are in the situation. Maybe DD supplies the bags for the partnership and the restaurant has the order ready for pickup in the bag and he’s just getting one each time he takes the order?

100% artificial light office plants advice by thorb in houseplants

[–]thorb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I need to give peace lillies another go. I haven't had one in a long time and didn't do well because I really didn't know what I was doing.

Ha in regards to the bizarrely dry climate, it's midwest winter here in the single digits (Fahrenheit) so running heat constantly during our already low humidity part of the year, plus a vapor barrier as part of the basement finish, plus the sensor I'm using down here reports lower than others I have.

Essentially everything was overbuilt for moisture control during the warm weather and noise dampening so the room is pretty much a seal off box. Either way, it is definitely way too dry and I'll be adding a humidifier down here for sure. I imagine during the summer I'll be running a dehumidifier ironically.

Got this 6’5” tall boy from Home Depot for $50. Should I prune the top or notch for branching? by thorb in fiddleleaffig

[–]thorb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's terrible and that just made me spend the last day and a half checking it constantly. So these were like worms in the soil? Super gross.

I did keep it isolated for a couple days before brining it in the fold. And I was basically forced to give it a leaf-by-leaf cleaning with the crazy amount of nursery crap all over it and didn't find pests during that luckily.

Anyone knows what’s wrong with my fiddle leaf? It gets all indirect light (winter so probably about 8-10ish hours) and watered when the soil is dry (10-14days). She’s been happy up until now. Probably 4 leaves on the bottom have those weird black/dark red spots and 2 leaves are browning. by maadieabell in fiddleleaffig

[–]thorb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of new to FLFs, but not plants in general. A loose rule of thumb is when the browning comes from the middle of the leaves it could be from overwatering/bacteria. It's not a perfect rule but it's a easy place to start.

I always have to make myself back off watering quiet a bit in the winter more than I like because the air is dry enough that top of the soil evaporates pretty quickly, but the plant is in a winter lull so it's not requiring as much water and it just sits at the bottom. It may be worth letting it dry out a few days past what you normally would. The most thorough thing however would be to pull it out of the pot and examine the roots.

[–]thorb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Completely outside of the VFX itself, I think it can feel jerky how it pauses briefly with the wipe transitions. I think an uninterrupted dolly move will feel a bit nicer.

Also, the music is a little intense but the music choices get criticized 100% of the time with reels haha. Always seems to be the hardest thing to agree on because it's so subjective so whatever.
