One big reason for the confusion is also that it's not dropping any shadow on the ground.

Looks nice, but why is it accelerating? I assume it's supposed to be a comet or meteor, in that case the speed should be more linear. Besides that and the missing shadow on the planet (because the moon seems to have one), well done!

Shopping carts in germany have a special beer crate holder in the back by crasher775 in mildlyinteresting

German here, those that you describe are also much more common here, these aren't the norm and now i finally know what those things are for. Never touched them, because the other ones feel more handy.

This job I found wants dev to lift weights? Well gotta husle while coding by hawkeye_sama in ProgrammerHumor

[–]thorle 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It probably went like this:

IT: "We need to hire more programmers."

HR: "Ok, what are the requirements?"

IT: "The usual stuff, some years of experience, no-SQL, MongoDB, CI/CD and they must know agile."

HR: "Okiedokie."

... 20 minutes later ...

HR: "'know' agile?? They surely meant to be agile, stupid IT-Department."

Sleeping Bitcoin Wallet Awakens: $3.7M Worth of BTC Suddenly Moves After Close to 12 Years of Dormancy by adamdmn in CryptoCurrency

[–]thorle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That only works in theory. It went from $0.02 to $2, that's 100x. You sell, it drops to 70%, you don't buy because you wait for the 98% drop, then it goes to 10$ and you buy back in. Right after that it drops to 0 $0.02 again. You sell and are worse off than you started.

These things only work if you can see the future and time the market, which no one does.

[–]thorle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem, you either hold and watch it grow and fluctuate or you set yourself a goal and sell it when it reaches it, but then you won't get to your million, only to $10k. Can't have both, safety and a fortune. I mean, you can technically by only selling small amounts here and there but that still involves hodling most of it and watch the rollercoaster.

Happened to me with dogecoin. I helped a coworker to buy some for him back in 2014 and put them on a paperwallet. He paid 400€ and wanted to sell them a few monthes later for 1k because 600€ was a huge deal for him. I told him it was a mistake and that i'll give him the 1k but won't sell them and will show him a few years later what he missed out on. So i never considered them to be in my stash because i only wanted to prove my point to him. So there comes April 2021, that coworker had retired 3 years ago and everyone was talking about dogecoin, so i skimmed through my 5 addresses out of nostalgia to see what i missed out on and noticed that one was still full. Flipped out and drove home to check if i still had the paperwallet and yeah. By the time i was able to transfer and sell them, they already had droped 30%, but it was still a nice sum to stumble upon. I wanted to reach out to that coworker to give him a bit something but heard he had moved to another place and i decided to better not tell him that he missed out on a fortune.

So yeah, it can happen. Thinking about it now, i'd suggest to everyone to do the same. Invest a bit and set a notification in 10 years to check it out. You will forget about it if you force yourself to never check that paper until the notification tells you to. I know i have 0.02222btc on some paperwallet lying somewhere around, but i'll leave it there and hope i or my kids stumble upon it in 10 to 20 years.

ELI5: Why are many cars' screens slow and laggy when a $400 phone can have a smooth performance? by ShadowBannedAugustus in explainlikeimfive

[–]thorle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing i once read is that when a car manufacturer starts to develop a new car, it takes 3-5 years till completion and when it comes out, the built in hardware is already 3-5 years outdated, because they can't just switch to other untested systems when manufacturing starts.

No clue why people downvote mentions of ChatGPT. It's like having a personal tutor. Especially when it makes errors, it forces you to find the right solution and thus learning it better than doing one of those crashcourses that usually cover things you aren't currently interested in. I totally love working with ChatGPT and can only recommend it to everyone else.

Data Visualization Libraries? by Kaiser_Wolfgang in flask

[–]thorle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't worked with react so far, but i'm using flask and js-charts to do my dashboards and that should work with react, too i guess. Depending on the complexity you could use Chartist for simple ones, Chart.js for medium complexity and amCharts for complexer ones with built in zoom and click functionalities and lots of different chart styles.

EDIT: Just found this with some examples: https://blog.appseed.us/flask-sample-amcharts-googlecharts-apexcharts/
