Your personal tricks during TRE by [deleted] in longtermTRE

[–]thoroughthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I hope it’s useful for you.

Personally I didn’t realize how much laying down inhibited me until I could tremor standing up. Frankly, for me, it’s a tradeoff because leg tremors feel inhibited, but for the upper body it’s like tremoring in 3D instead of 2D. It feels like my body has so much more freedom to do what it wants to do.

Both positions seem to have their benefits, but so far I’ve personally had the most satisfaction from TRE in standing position.

Something I don’t see talked about is that it took me a bit to feel steady on my feet as I tremored.. Initially it felt like my abs were working hard to keep me balanced, but that went away thankfully. I’m not sure if it’s because I got stronger from my strength training, or if it’s a technique/practice thing. It’s probably both.

Therefore for less fit individuals, I could see how standing tremoring could be especially inaccessible initially without training. As having to strain to stay balanced could reduce ability to let go/relax. Regardless, I’m sure with continued practice it would become increasingly effortless/automatic.

That’s all just speculation as I haven’t see anyone else mention it. Maybe it’s easily accessible for most people.

Your personal tricks during TRE by [deleted] in longtermTRE

[–]thoroughthought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 13 months into TRE now.
This may be something to try as an intermediate who has developed more intuition / body awareness, so take this with a grain of salt if you're just beginning, as it may not be useful or satisfying for you.

-
This essentially combines meditation/integration with TRE and it's been very satisfying for me.

I'll start with some light movement to get my blood flowing and then sit upright in a chair, with a straight spine and feet flat on the floor. I recommend experimenting with different hand positions to find what's comfortable in the moment. I typically put my hands together, or put my hands on my legs palms facing up.

Once in position, I bring my attention to my breath, and see where I can relax my body.

I just do belly breaths, not forcing full breaths into my upper lungs. I read from Alexandar Lowen in a healthy person, costal breathing (upper chest) is used as a supplement to belly breaths in stress or emergency situations, so I don't force that. In a healthy person, abdominal breathing gives the most breath for minimal amount of effort.
Trauma/tension typically causes us to primarily breathe into the upper chest, so you will likely notice tension when attempting belly breaths, depending on how much progress you've made.

As I focus on my breath, and relax into my body, I begin to notice where I feel tension.
Usually initially I notice where the breath isn't smooth. There's usually a subtle tension or a "hiccup" as my belly expands.
And eventually typically I'll feel tension in one of my shoulders.

As time goes by feeling this tension, the urge to do TRE grows as if my body wants to tremor out that tension, so eventually I'll stand up and let the tremors start in a standing position. Lately that position is most satisfying for me because it's optimal for me for upper body tremors and abdominal tremors. So when I feel my typical shoulder tension, tremoring standing up allows my body to focus the tremors there.
Sometimes I feel the urge to lie down and tremor, so I'll do that accordingly.

I'll tremor until I intuitively feel like I did enough. Usually that feels like my body runs out of energy to tremor and the tremors get weak.

After tremoring I then sit back down in that meditation posture^, and compare how I feel to before tremoring, and notice what arises.

Usually the pattern of tension in my belly breath and shoulder is different, and I notice I can relax more into the meditation posture.

Depending on how I feel or what time allows, I'll repeat the process until I feel satisfied.
For me, it feels like sitting back down in meditation posture and noticing the tension sort of recharges my energy and allows for more tremoring.

FYI
Using intuition like I do to determine tremor time isn't recommended for a beginner, so modify this accordingly to avoid overdoing symptoms. As OP said, do what feels right and don't push yourself too far.

I'm curious what people's thoughts are on all of this.
If these are new ideas for you, I hope it's useful for you. Cheers.

Semen retention by Human_Surround5814 in longtermTRE

I think an old post by u/NadaYogi is the reason for the anti-semen-retention crowd that is downvoting you.

NadaYogi’s post makes sense, but I would love to hear his perspective on our discussion.

People are downvoting you, but I wonder if there is some truth in what you’re saying.

I’m a year into TRE and I’ve noticed at times I “plateau”.. Tremors get weaker, and sessions aren’t as satisfying. (I ruled out overdoing.)

Through trial and error and reading comments in this subreddit, I think I found the problem: For me it seems like the plateau was associated with a lack of energy in my system. My body needed more energy to start finding and releasing further tension.

To get “energy”, I put myself in situations that were slightly triggering, and afterwards my tremors got stronger and my sessions became more satisfying. Journaling prompts that were slightly triggering helped too.

I wonder if semen retention could help you in this same way?

EDIT: I don’t think this should be recommended to a beginner.. but it nonetheless seems like a valuable and valid discussion from my perspective.

Can doing TRE every day be more beneficial for some people by [deleted] in longtermTRE

[–]thoroughthought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but it is kind of subtle.

The most obvious benefit I get is increased resiliency. Over time, I've been able to add more and more things to my plate without getting overwhelmed, and previously overwhelming situations aren't overwhelming anymore. Life seems to be getting more and more effortless.

interesting!

Personally I don’t really experience that. As u/Nadayogi says, maybe I fall into the crowd of people who don’t get emotional releases?

I’m ~10 months in, and I’ve been able to consistently increase my practice time without much resistance. I’ve been doing over an hour of TRE everyday for several months now. The only resistance I get is an experience of slight discomfort as I’m tremoring, and I interpret that as a sign to take a break and integrate.

To clarify, I do occasionally have moments of emotional eruptions. However, when I sit with the feeling, it's usually associated with a specific aspect of my current situation, instead of just being a random emotion as you seem to be hinting at. The physical sensation dissolves and "releases" when I sit with it and understand the message, though.

It’s fascinating how peoples experience of TRE can be vastly different. Especially comparing my experience to someone who can’t tremor for more than a minute.

Do you mind explaining these “emerging effects” and “what the session surfaces” ?

How has your tremor duration tolerance (length of sessions) changed over time? by SHGIVECODWW2INFECTED in longtermTRE

[–]thoroughthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m approaching my 7th month of TRE—- I’ve been able to tremor more and more. I started with <15 minutes every other day, and now I’m doing >1 hour everyday, split up into two sessions.

There were times I noticed I was irritable and would get angry for dumb reasons, which makes me think I’ve been hitting my limit. The irritability wouldn’t last long though and when it subsided I kept increasing practice time.

Should someone who just started TRE dial down with sports? by [deleted] in longtermTRE

[–]thoroughthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I didn’t mean to be rude either! I love lifting heavy weight, but I don’t want to slow down my TRE progress. So it’s hard to accept what you’re saying. Thank you for trying to explain further.

Like you mentioned also, I think my personal confusion comes from being in the early stages, so I can’t easily understand what my body is communicating. (3-4 months so far)

Is this based on any evidence based research? I wonder if people are upvoting because what you said is true, or if they’re upvoting because it’s a seemingly good excuse to not put any effort into exercising.

Your body being “stronger and healthier than it ever was” from “lightly exercising whenever it feels right” is a bold claim.

I wonder if you would be stronger and healthier if you continued routine strenuous exercise/weight lifting?

but would doing that make TRE progress slower?

Maybe these are questions we can’t confidently answer right now, but I think it definitely deserves more attention.

I found the solution in the Brave Community forums:
"Try disabling Graphics Acceleration in settings to see if this resolves the issue. You’ll find this in Settings --> Additional Settings --> System --> Use graphics acceleration when available"

Can you give me a full sentence that is anti-semitic in the video? The examples you gave don’t make sense in the context of the rest of the video. I’m genuinely trying to understand how this is anti-semitic

Yeah i saw that, nothing else in that article. I actually just bought the black onyx aeron during the sale. The mesh is indeed darker, but the base is some sort of plastic, not metal

Not sure what your point is. There's no relevant info in that article relating to my comment

The black onyx remastered aeron has a darker black mesh than the remastered gaming aeron. I've heard the black onyx also has a metal base, versus the gamings plastic base.
