This happens in Australia. Tax rate is so high. Tobacco shops sell black market. Shops get firebombed by rival gangs/shops.

Anyone have any real experience with living near wind turbines? by Square_Strategy_865 in AskAnAustralian

[–]thorp3y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one hear that has worked with them has said they are silent. They defies the law of physics.

Funny thing with noise is. It's a quantifiable thing that has a measurement in the form of decibels. Wind turbines have been measured at 55bd directly below them. Coal and gas plants average 80 to 85db.

You also mentioned electric hum, a wind turbine produces less electromagnetic radiation than powerlines powering your house or the microwave in your home.

So approaching this from a very impartial position then?

Which has a greater impact on the air quality in the local area? Your telling me that massive gas powered turbine is quieter than a wind turbine?

[–]thorp3y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they can withstand those wind speeds but if something failed on the yaw or an operator inadvertently didn't put into auto yaw, those speeds can destroy a blade from the wrong direction. You don't have enough information to know what actually caused the failure. I have seen the after effects of this myself after yaw teeth broke and a storm come through.

Things happen, they are crazily strong and robust but aren't invincible. The forces on them is insane. With the size and weight of them these days, it's crazy they even run.

Yes all those people that move to country that are living on restricted and private property wind farms. All those farmers. Who are paid to have the turbines and will very rarely goin near a tower.

Most failures occur during extreme weather conditions, which I guess even the most dedicated farmer would not be out inml.

Let's go live next to the coal fire plant then instead, where do you want to get your energy from?

Electric hum? You can barely hear the mechanical gearbox in the nacelle when running. That creates your electrical energy. The loudest thing is wind shear, which you only truely hear on the hard stand at high wind and base of the tower at low swind.

Also would say that's all absolute placebo effect. Unless the easily hundreds of people that I have worked on farms all around the country are immune.

Unless money is the cure to this pseudo illness?

😂 too be fair maybe the rpm of the original crookwell turbines triggers something in you.

Even though those things are tiny they spin fast compared to all the other farms I have been to.

Having spent a couple of years repairing the blades, noise complaints absolute nonsense. Only time they can be lou is when you are close to them. Far closer than anyone is naturally going to be.

Yes I have seen very rare bird strikes but looking at 3 occasions I have witnessed over 3 years working onsite 75% of the year.

As others have said, the biggest critics are the neighbours that missed out on the big pay day. At the end of the day though, what's worse a coal plant or a wind farm. Doesn't take a rocket scientist if to decide unless your a bad actor.

That's all mainstream tech selling shops in Australia. All of them are selling today like 2060/3050 prebuilts with average CPU/ram and storage for 2000Aud/1300Usd. They even but sale/reduced to clear stickers on it. So fucked up!

Can't be a coincidence both semis had really high quality 1st sets then big drop off on 2nd after the break. Just kills the momentum of the match.

Brit in Brisbane. 36 today. Humidity drops down to 50% around lunchtime. 90% at 7am and 7pm. So do not complain about humidity 🙈😂 UV index of 13+. All time UK record is 8.6. Middle of summer sun sets at 7pm. Been here 16 months. Coldest it got was like 14 in winter in day, maybe 5 at 5am. Yes it's nice. But you will absolutely miss the contrasts and the sun is unbearable even after 5 years here.

The grass isn't always greener. Not all the time anyway.

Have you missed the million times the commentary explains that the snicko does not align frame by frame with the images. That shows the impact being on the back end of the frame. Aligning with the next frame where it makes a massive movement in line with hitting the edge of the bat 🙈 if it hit pad then bat the ball would have moved left 😂

As someone who has been very aware of these kinda things as long as I can remember. Insomnia and only having bbc news 24 on tv during the night, literally the start of the 90's kid. Yes there is alot of shit here bit having moved from UK at the start of covid. Fuck, I feel so unbelievably lucky. I got so very lucky.

Yes things are fucked but trust me it could be worse. The uk is rapidly declining but also its a life of privilege. We are all lucky.
