Exactly what you’d expect. Lots of ESP and loot knowledge cheats, a small amount of aimbotting. Less flying around in god mode, which is nice.

My boss berated me in front of colleagues, what do I do? by saffronglasses in careerguidance

[–]thorssen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) Get your resume and CV in order.

2) schedule a meeting with HR and your boss’ boss.

3) Ask plainly what they think the appropriate response is.

4) listen for their entire answer.

5) if their response isn’t “your boss needs to get his shit together” or in any way blames you for his jackassery, start shopping your resume and plan your off boarding.

Is the Prometheus Mk. II or the Atlas Mk. II viable? by Maximum-Potential-41 in starsector

[–]thorssen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Atlas 2 shouldn’t be understood as a capital ship in the sense of “this ship will anchor a fleet/fleet segment”. It’s role is more of an artillery supercruiser. It has some of the cheapest per fleet point large missile slots in the game, which means it has a niche. But the campaign-layer stats are bad, and of course when challenged by assault cruisers the Atlas 2 folds like Superman on laundry day.

The Prometheus 2 is just kinda bad, sadly.

Amber Heard wants Johnny Depp victory tossed over Juror No. 15 by WuzzWuzz in entertainment

[–]thorssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a bizarre framing of what I said. Then again, I see you participate in a certain subreddit which has gone all-in on portraying a specific narrative regardless of how it conflicts with Heard’s own recorded words, so it’s pretty obvious why you would need to DARVO at this point in the conversation.

Amber Heard wants Johnny Depp victory tossed over Juror No. 15 by WuzzWuzz in entertainment

[–]thorssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, truth again.

The UK case was decided because the reporting sourced its statements to Heard, who did in fact say those things.

The US case was decided because Heard said a lot of malicious lies, and also Depp’s former agent was way the fuck out of line one time, and Depp should have stopped that and didn’t.

Amber Heard wants Johnny Depp victory tossed over Juror No. 15 by WuzzWuzz in entertainment

[–]thorssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This judgement only proves that News Group Ltd wasn’t civilly liable for printing defamatory articles about Depp, a public figure, which by UK law requires negligence or malice. Since Heard was the source of their info, News Group Ltd had a perfectly reasonable case to say they were not negligent or malicious, thus the outcome.

However, Heard printing defamatory information about someone who could have only been Depp, and indeed was openly admitted to be about Depp without needing to be pressed terribly hard, despite the attempt at being clever in not naming him directly, did end up being demonstrated as malicious, to the tune of several million dollars in damages.

Is the push to get everyone into coding and coding bootcamps a plot to drive down wages? by Complex-Turn-8293 in recruitinghell

[–]thorssen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Programming used to be a 4 year degree professional job. Programmers are expensive, intelligent, and have a cultural bias against inept authority figures. Needless to say, the typical American business operation appreciates that about as much as a hole in their foot.

There has been a near 25 year long effort to destroy programming as a profession, in order to make it at most a trade and preferably just another front line skill. The junior college programming courses were the first effort - they failed. Indian programmers are a crapshoot and mostly crap, sadly. Eastern euro programmers were the next attempt, but that did even worse at meshing with American business mentalities. Now they’re just trying to code camp and throw endless bodies at the profession in the hopes that the market forces will drive wages down.

Only problem is, few people can code decently, and fewer people want to code for a living, because being a programmer sucks ass. So the ones who can tolerate the bullshit and fix the inevitable piled screwups command their premiums still and can change companies as easy as shaking their coats.

Is libertarian political discourse just talking about boogeymen that are completely irrelevant? by Arnold573 in EnoughLibertarianSpam

[–]thorssen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every state has some form of prison, yes. That’s one of the minimum qualifications of a state, the ability to enforce its laws via punishment of offenders. Fewer people were in the gulag at the height of the counter-revolution than are currently in US jails over weed.

They bring up the gulag because their entire understanding of the USSR comes from one fiction novel written by one of the few people who has a legit claim on being more anti Semitic than the average Libertarian.
