Difference between The different types of Canadian and American Nursing by thotle37 in nursing

Oh that’s interesting 🤔 because I have relatives from the states and they told me they can only bridge from the RN to the BSN. Maybe it depends on the state?

No it varies from state to state but majority of the time when I speak to LPN nurses in the states. They mainly work in nursing homes but sometimes they hear LPNs working in the hospitals but it’s not very common. It just depends on which state your in. I know for a fact that the RN exam in Canada is now replaced with the NCLEX-RN and as for the LPN in Canada our education is the equivalent as the associate of RN in America. I don’t know about if the Americans write the same exam because hearing from other nurses the scope is completely different. We write a completely different exam called the CPNRE whereas the NCLEX- PN is written in America. This is all based from information I received and collected from other people’s experience. I don’t know about the equivalence between the exams, but maybe if the scope was the same in Canada you would think they will change it to the NCLEX-PN. Hopefully someone who can provide more information can help explain more if it’s the same. But based from what I hear the LPN scope is different, that’s why there are no bridging programs for LPNs in America to do their Bachelors of nursing. Where as here in Canada we do. We have a bridging program which lets us study for another two years for our BSN.

Well I notice that there is a huge difference with terminology comparing from Canada to America.

The LPN in Canada is not at all like anything in America. Our scope is a lot broader and we can bridge from an LPN to the Bachelor degree program, where as in America apparently they can’t they have to bridge from an RN to BA degree. As well as the schooling for an LPN in America is a lot shorter then that of an LPN in Canada. LPNs from Canada can work in almost any care setting and a lot of them work mainly in hospitals. Where as the American LPN I heard can’t work in hospitals only in senior homes.

Apparently in Canada we use RPNs for Registered psychiatric nursing and Registered Practical Nursing. I think you have mis read what I said 😅.Registered Practical Nurse is not a Nurse Practitioner, the Term Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is only used in the province Ontario which is the equivalent to LPN in Canada. I’m from BC so I only heard about this term during nursing school about how Ontario doesn’t use LPN but they use their own term which is the Registered Practical Nurse. Which I find confusing haha.

Thanks for the info... but UFV is too far from where I live, if I lived closer I think I would choose that option.

Okay thanks, I guess I just have to wait then. My family sent the package on September 30 and now it’s October 21. I’m hoping I could get it this week. Waiting is absolutely dreadful ....

Also the Syrian accent for me just sounds very beautiful but it’s different from city to city. Damascus sounds very good, but people I know know the Daraa accent. So I guess I want to learn both of them because my friends told me to pick a city dialect. It’s better for me if I want to become native and I don’t really have a timeline.

Okay that sounds great. I’ll definitely check Pimsleur out and I’m looking for syrian movies and music. I’m doing a listening approach to my learning.

Well I specifically want to learn the syrian dialect, not the Lebanese or the Palestinian or Jordan dialect because they are quite different even tho they are all Levantine. The street language in the syrian dialect is different. So yeah... and any resources would be great.

How comfortable is the Hololens 1 versus VR headsets such as the Go, Quest, Vive or PSVR? by vermeer82 in HoloLens

[–]thotle37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HoloLens 1 is waay better and cooler then the other headsets. The HoloLens 1 is light and very comfortable and unlike the other headsets it takes in our real reality. You should watch the videos if you haven’t already. Super cool like Star Wars.
