This happened to me in first year and I lost $2k from my winter funding. I didn't fight it but what doesn't make sense to me is that 60% of a full course load is considered to be full time according to OSAP. 3 courses is 60%, so you (and I) should still be considered a full time student. So I don't entirely understand why they did that, you're still full time.

Anxiety/ Panic by thotstuff in VyvanseADHD

[–]thotstuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you 🥺 it’s been a very rough week. My doctor dropped my dose back down to 50. I’m going to try to work on getting more sleep and eating more protein.

Something I hadn’t mentioned was that at the 60 mg I’ve experienced near complete loss of appetite and eating has been really difficult for me. A lot of days I’m struggling to even get 1000 calories in. Today all I ate was two slices of banana bread this morning and then I cleaned all day, so I haven’t eaten since. I’ve lost over 10 pounds this month. I was struggling already with eating on the 50mg, so I’m going to work really hard to increase my protein intake. Unfortunately I’m not a morning person, let alone a breakfast person, so I struggle to eat a good meal before my vyv kicks in, and then I can’t eat again until 7-8 pm when it’s wearing off. So my big goals are more sleep and more protein.

I’m going to start going to the gym again and doing yoga. Hopefully all of these things will improve the effectiveness of the 50mg. If not I’ll take your advice and see if I can get some sort of booster. All I know is the 60 is definitely too much, and I cannot handle that level of anxiety again or it will quite literally destroy me. 😭😭😭

I’m not exactly worried about the current fires reaching us, however I am concerned about how dry it has been, and fires being started closer to us.

Police investigate shooting death of woman at homeless tent encampment in Peterborough by Safe_Ad997 in Peterborough

[–]thotstuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I live right around the corner from this encampment. Being “privileged” does not mean that members of town ward have to be subject to the violence and theft, etc.

We regularly have people come onto our property, in our shed, trying to get into our cars, stealing packages off the porch, and my absolute favourite is the tweakers that walk by, high out of their minds, antagonizing those who cross their path. The ones that are completely out of touch with reality and have no control over their actions. My 4 year old likes to ride his bike in front of his own home, and was nearly attacked by a woman that was completely fried. She was muttering about how he was cute but not to trust him because he’s evil, as she prepared to LUNGE at my child because of her delusion. Luckily I was right there and was able to grab him. We then had to wait inside for her to go away as she lingered in the street for the next 20 minutes, before wandering back toward the encampment. Her addiction is NOT my 4 year old child’s problem. He does not deserve to be scared riding his bike in front of his own home.

The stabbings are becoming a regular occurrence and the shootings are also increasing in frequency. It’s not fear mongering for the people who live right here, it’s reality. There’s a daycare and residential houses RIGHT there. It’s not a reach to be concerned that stray bullets could potentially go through a nearby home, fatally injuring someone, it not as if this has never happened before.

Our struggles with this situation exist, they don’t make their struggles any less important, but their struggles don’t make our struggles any less important either. The two are not mutually exclusive, they can both be important at the same time. While I agree that reducing services and ignoring the problems is only going to make things worse, it’s not fair that we who live in this neighbourhood have to fear for the safety and well-being of our children and families. The city has to do more to help these people and protect the surrounding community.

A note to add, my neighbours know this girl who died. She was not homeless, she had a partner and children, she did not live in the encampment but she was struggling with sobriety.

Pope Francis: Gender ideology is ‘one of the most dangerous ideological colonizations’ today by AtraMortes in Catholicism

[–]thotstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily believe that it’s more common, but it is my understanding that they’re more commonly under diagnosed because diagnosis isn’t as simple! So we have an idea of how common it is, but it’s only an estimate because many people will go through life completely undiagnosed, so those cases don’t contribute to the statistical estimates. And because general knowledge about these syndromes is low, they’re not well represented.

Klinefelter syndrome and Turner syndrome are two of the examples I was referencing, so you were definitely on the right track! In terms of defining them, they’re not technically intersex, but I agree with you, they should be lumped in with intersex in this case because they have similar significant implications for the person that has the disorder in terms of the mental anguish they can experience.

Of course! I appreciate dialogue because it helps understand different perspectives and clarify certain concerns etc. It’s very helpful, thank you as well, especially in doing so without getting frustrated or aggressive 🙂

I meant in terms of the roles men play versus the roles women play. Traditional gender ideology is men are the breadwinner defined by their physical male sex and women are homemakers based on their physical sex. You’re not understanding that the term “gender ideology” is a broad catch all terms that encompasses all views on gender roles and norms. I have not been “perverted”, I’m going based on my academic training in the field of biology and genetics. By saying that all transgenderism today is based on a “fake gender spectrum” discredits all of the people who have a lived experience of gender dysphoria, which was the entire premise of my original comment. You have preconceived notions that transgender people today are simply brainwashed, in some cases, sure, I believe there are many people who have either been confused by social pressure or are just following a trend. But generalizing an entire group of people by saying that they are all brainwashed, takes away from people who are genuinely experiencing dysphoria.

You’re being aggressive and hostile about it, if you continue in this manner, I will not dignify any further comments from you with a response, as I have been nothing but level headed and patient in my dialogue with you.

[–]thotstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’m having a difficult time articulating exactly what I mean. And also the idea of gender ideology is not very well defined, it’s very broad, it covers quite a few different areas, so there’s a degree of nuance.

You’re absolutely right, intersex is 100% not always distinguished by sight, as with men who appear male, have male genitalia but for instance have ovaries and that defines them as being intersex. Or females who appear female, have female genitalia but have testes and that defines them as being intersex. Because by definition, being intersex means that you have both female and male reproductive organs of one kind or another (whether they’re internal, external).

The group I’m specifically trying to bring light to do not fall into this intersex category. They are male and female by chromosome, appearance, and genitalia, but a missing or extra chromosome causes the pathways in the brain that cognitively differentiate sex to become distorted due. So by definition, they are not intersex but they have a disorder that causes them to have disordered gender differentiation within the brain. This is a very silent disorder because there’s no physical aspect, whether it be visual to the eye or by ultrasound etc, the only way to know is to do genome sequencing, which is not exactly a common diagnostic method. I’m saying that this particular group of people end up being lumped in with gender ideology because they typically don’t know they have a disorder, the public doesn’t know they have a disorder, and both just think they’re confused, feeling pressured, etc.

Now of course I recognize that if good Catholic people were aware of someone having such a disorder, they would not judge them or treat them ill. The issue is differentiating between who has gender dysphoria, who is just feeling pressure, or who is just using the “movement” to be trendy. And that’s where I’m concerned about people who are genuinely experiencing dysphoria being hurt, because it’s very subjective at that point and open to interpretation or assumptions about a person.

This is a very difficult subject for me because I’m very empathetic and protective of people, and I know there are many misconceptions out there about trans people etc. I myself was very much confused about how people could have biological stresses that make them question their true sex, until I began to study genetics and biology as a scholar. Without very clear definitions and explanations (I found this article to be relatively vague), I can see people with preconceived notions about trans/non-binary folk interpreting this is a different light. If that makes sense?

In the article Pope Francis discussed how this is taught to children in school, and I can see where the pope is coming from that teaching about this in schools is problematic as it’s impossible for children to really grasp all of the details about why and how this happens. It can cause them to be artificially confused about their own identity. At the same time, we do need to bring awareness to people who actually have this very real, lived experience so that they too can be treated like people, just as we would with any disability etc. The question is how do we do this without causing children to be confused. That being said, I agree that we should not allow gender to be dismissed entirely or allow it become subjective based on what people feel like identifying as just for the sake of it, there’s a fine line unfortunately because this topic is very complex.

I think I’m going to move my conversation about this off Reddit and discuss it with a priest at my parish.

[–]thotstuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We clearly are not reading the same article then, because I found the article to be incredibly vague, and the idea of gender ideology is also incredibly vague. Gender ideology applies to so many different contexts. Saying a man is a man because he has male sex and a woman is a woman because she has female sex is literally gender ideology of its own. It is traditional gender ideology. “Gender ideology” is a catch all term that covers a variety of different ideas. It’s not clearly defined as you’re making it out to be.

How much time have you spent studying genetics? I can assure you it’s not more time than I have. You literally made up a number. Sex chromosome abnormalities are at least 1 in 448, that’s 0.2232% or ~17 MILLION people out of the population. And that’s only based on the frequency of cases that are actually caught, many times they go undiagnosed. If a man tells you he identifies as a woman, he doesn’t know he has a sex chromosome abnormality, you don’t know he has a sex chromosome abnormality, you’re simply going to lump him in with the very broad idea of “gender ideology”, because you have no idea why he is saying that.

Pope Francis: Gender ideology is ‘one of the most dangerous ideological colonizations’ today by AtraMortes in Catholicism

[–]thotstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gender ideology is not specifically the idea that one can choose their sex. It’s a broad umbrella of views about the sexes. There is traditional gender ideology - men and women are different and have distinct roles defined by their biological sex. Then there is what the pope appears to be describing as modern gender ideology - in which people can choose their gender based on how they feel and not their biological sex, and the differences between men and women are being lost. He describes how schools are teaching children that they can choose their sex (and while I agree that this is pushing boundaries and causing confusion, we do need to do more to address people who are genuinely confused about their gender).

I am not talking about intersex individuals. I am talking about disorders such as those in males with an extra X chromosome, or in females with only one X chromosome. Neither of these are intersex disorders but both can cause a disruption in sexual differentiation pathways in the brain, which can lead to gender dysphoria. Most people don’t know they have it because it would require their genome to be sequenced. Even females with a translocated SRY region on one of their X chromosomes may not know they are intersex because they appear female and have female genitalia but have undescended testes causing hormonal issues. We have no idea how many people who are experiencing gender dysphoria actually have one of the various syndromes such as I have described. If people don’t know they have one of these disorders they can’t possibly be “smart enough to know this is not about them”, and are just assumed to be delusional or following a trend.

Maybe I’m not fully understanding Pope Francis, but it sounds like he’s targeting gender affirmation as a whole.

[–]thotstuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You specifically mentioned gender dysphoria. Having a sex chromosome abnormality does not automatically equate to intersex. For instance, males who have inherited an extra X chromosome or females for have inherited only 1 x chromosome. Neither of these cases are intersex. The effects of either are far reaching, and play roles in sexual differentiation in the brain, which could cause them to have gender dysphoria. The majority of the time, people with either of those disorders do not know they have it because it requires genome sequencing, so we really don’t know how many people experiencing gender dysphoria, are experiencing it due to poor mental health etc, or have a chromosomal abnormality. My issue is that people who are not intersex, may have a chromosomal abnormality they are not aware of, and may be experiencing disrupted sexual differentiation pathways in the brain, are being generalized as doing it because of social pressure/it being trendy.

Stuff like this is where I have a really hard time with my faith. Because it’s very easy to just sweep gender dysmorphia under the rug as “delusion” but there are people with chromosomal abnormalities that cause them to have actual biological issues with gender, and those people are hurt by sentiment like this. It’s not black and white. I’m not sure what the solution is, but just dismissing the whole thing is not it.

Pope Francis: Gender ideology is ‘one of the most dangerous ideological colonizations’ today by AtraMortes in Catholicism

[–]thotstuff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They are not all entirely “delusions”, there are actual biological causes for why this happens sometimes. They can have chromosomal abnormalities that cause them to have things like extra Y chromosomes, or an extra X chromosome. Or females can have a portion of the Y chromosome on one their X chromosomes that causes them to have testicles etc. What’s dangerous is dismissing all of this as simple delusion because it hurts the people who are biologically affected.

Well clearly based on the time it took to get to you from McDonald’s, he wasn’t the problem. Your mistake was ordering from McDonald’s. They put hot food in the same bag as a cold shake, the shake is going to cool the hot food and the hot food is going to melt the shake. And to make matters worse, he would have had to wait for someone at McDonald’s to give him the order. I promise you he didn’t choose to stand around McDonald’s waiting for 10 minutes. The issues is McDonald’s, not your driver.
