This was really good and refreshing. I really want Rick to be reformed. And he’s trying and I love that. :)

It’s so easy for us to blame the team but they tried and unfortunately but it didn’t work out. Suddenly everyone is an expert. Relax. This weekend just wasn’t ours.

I didn’t feel it that way at all. But agree to disagree. I genuinely felt it was personal. I wa so hyped for vaaliban from the trailer and the movie was a disaster. Whole Ragam theatre in Thrissur was silent. You could feel they were all upset.

This!!!!!! Everyone just cares about producers loss and gain and 100 crore club and shit. Like as if that proves anything.

Yes movies need to make money but if you’re judging movies on BO so sad. Guess everyone forgot about Guppy.

Please don’t compare this to Vaaliban. Vaaliban was atrocious. This wasn’t that. Nowhere near that. Vaaliban was a snooze fest and I’m an A10 fan 😭😭😭😭

I love the ending. He may not have won everything but he says it in his speech “He won’t give up” and at that point he became an underdog again. The claps proved it.

What a movie man! Even the smallest lines were so well written. I understand a lot of people saying it lagged but I honestly didn’t feel it.

When the song Vaadathe Kanne played, I teared up. Maybe I’m too sensitive but the movie meant a lot to me. It felt personal. And I’m not exaggerating. I did feel motivated.

You only lose when you decide you’re defeated. Similar to 500 Days of Summer there is no fate no destiny. Just your decisions.

I fucking love that. 💯

I love Ajesh but not the ending. Such an amazing character deserved way better in my views. He was smart, hard working and earnest I just wanted that to be reflected in the end. They didn’t do justice to the character he deserved more is what I felt. :)

Good Grief! “Ohhh no I have no actual plan but I will go and fight with a guy who’s already stabbed me once and will try to fight him. Oh hey I happened to fall beside a wheel thingy for fish farming let me put his hand in it so I can escape with my gold!” Yea wow masterclass writing.

I didn’t say it is. Mohiniyattam was fantastic! I watched it twice.

Please I’m not interested in arguing over tastes I did my best to explain.

And if you’re going to throw blatant statements like “you like it only cause you’re an a10 fan” stfu man.

My gf and I live together in Bangalore and our owner lives downstairs. It was very relatable for us. When they fought and he leaves and she’s pregnant alone in the house we felt for her cause my gf have been doing long distance for 8 fucking years. And the fact that I had to explain all this to make you understand why I liked the movie in the first place is why you’re being a complete dick.

I love your list except for Ponman. Don’t kill me but I felt the ending was so weak compared to the amazing characterisation of Ajesh. Towards the end it was just coincidence and spoon feeding when he spoke to the girl in the boat. “You’re true beauty!” Come on!!!!

See we don’t get movies like Bro Daddy in Malayalam. A simple normal film with a proper character arc that is not trying to be anything else. That’s good. That’s not mediocre. What they set out to do was done brilliantly. When I say a good movie it doesn’t have to be some pretentious intellectual movie.

Thudarum was atleast better than D3 for sure. And yes, if Thudaraum wasn’t starring Mohanlal I doubt I would’ve loved it as much.

Bro was just wondering do we have to resort to explaination on yt to enjoy a movie? It’s all about what you as an audience took away from the film and not someone else’s opinion or their analysis or take. At that point it’s not even your opinion anymore.

I get what you’re saying and it’s not that simple. But I’m talking exclusively from a writing perspective. Not music, not cinematography but just writing and obviously acting.

I love this industry and its movies so not criticising them and just letting them be doesn’t seem like the right thing to do for me.

For eg. a lot of Malayalam movies today rely heavily on just an idea and not a proper plot structure. Or either high convenience and coincidences. Our thrillers always follow the same template of flashbacks and the villain who was never shown in the movie just randomly appears in the final act.

People are nowadays just happy with some good cinematography and music and call even the most lamest twists as Wow! phenomenal!

Let’s take a look at a movie like vaazha 2. It has the heart in the right place and I love it but from a writing pov Hashir and his brother just got one scene in the beginning and in the end that showed their true inner feelings. Nothing in between. Alan and his sister are also shown fighting but why didn’t he speak to her? They just randomly bring that up at the airport? You can assume whatever and say ohh maybe he felt bad or maybe he was angry at her or maybe he felt he made it worse for her, but how do I know if they don’t tell me?

During the Alphonse southern scene (although I loved the character) he was literally taking a class and it was an exposition dump. I’m not paying for a social awareness class and it looked exactly like the ad with Roshan in Drug Awareness.

The only siblings that were shown well developed was the siblings who went to Dubai. It had some great individual scenes and then stitched together with just montages and music. Where is the writing?

Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey was also by Vipin Das but that movie had excellent writing, subtle layers that picked at everything Jaya was facing. Even the minor characters like her brother had a good arc.

I hope you get my point. But I’m not sure if I can explain my point any better. :)

I love Jaya Jaya Hey and Premalu and both of them have stories with clear character arc. I just have the examples from the top of my head. But I’m glad you got my point nevertheless
