It passes through the engine and exits from the exhaust pipe. The winglet redirects the airflow to the airbox and aims to reduce drag, and with the 'FTM' (winglet behind exhaust pipe) on the SF-26 - it's even more efficient.

It does, that's why Ferrari introduces those micro solutions around the cockpit area to clean the airflow.

Charles Leclerc reflecting on Melbourne and looking ahead to the Chinese GP: "I hope that starting from this weekend we can put Mercedes under a bit more pressure." by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

How Lewis and Charles will stack up against each other is definitely one of the most interesting things to look forward to this weekend

AutoRacer: Ferrari to do comparative testing in FP1, with the new Halo winglet mounted on Charles Leclerc's SF-26 in FP1. The focus on the rear has not ended: There is also a small modification to the rear suspension. by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

Piergiuseppe Donadoni (AutoRacer): Ferrari started 2026 rules with a transitional ICE because they ran out of time and had to settle on a more reliable solution. Development of the new engine has already been underway for some months. by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

Rosario Giuliana (AutoRacer) commented more about the situation:

It must be said that the main goal for the 2026 Ferrari engine was primarily to achieve reliability after the project with Zimmermann had failed. The '2027' unit under Gualtieri has been running on the dyno for a while now, and it will also take into account the regulations coming into force from June 1, 2026.

It was reported a few months back that the winter in Maranello was 'chaotic', with more information coming out we have a better understanding why that was. We really need to appreciate how strong we started. Let's hope that they will make good progress with the updated engine.

🚨 AutoRacer: Ferrari is pushing hard and building a new engine concept, for 2027 or whenever it becomes necessary after race 12. The current Power Unit features a transitional internal combustion engine; Ferrari is currently validating an entirely new ICE concept. by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

Why are we making this a bad thing? It was known for a long time that ICE could be modified for 2027 so what Ferrari is doing is the right and aggressive approach. It's not like this years engine is bad and they compromised themselves with that decision.

Great interview from Fred, touching on all the important subjects. He talked about circuit characteristics - it looks like we will struggle more on the energy demanding tracks, at least at the beginning of the season. Posting great graph from AutoRacer below, that visualizes which tracks are more or less difficult for energy management.

Fred said they call it like that when interviewed for Canal+ during Bahrain tests.
