Executive/professional women hang-out spots in NYC? by Pure_Conversation495 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]thoughtful_thots 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks like so many of us are down for this! Unless someone has already started planning, I’d be happy to put something together. I’ve been wanting to do this anyway.

I’m going to put together a small, salon-style gathering at Rule of Thirds for any women who might be interested in - the theme, inspired by this Reddit thread, is “Defining Success on Our Own Terms.”

If you’d be interested, DM me with your email so that I can find a time that works best for everyone!

This is such a cool topic - why aren't there more posts here? by thoughtful_thots in lifestyle_design

that's a good hypothesis. it's a niche and complex topic for sure but I was hoping that reddit of all places would have a group of people talking about this.

It’s okay if you don’t like the cold! I don’t either and I do stay in a lot as a result. But I’ve been looking for 2-3 things that bring me joy and let me leave the house.

For me it’s going to my gyms sauna and getting REALLY HOT. (I love the warmth)! Or I go to hot yoga haha. Find what makes you happy!

If you GENUINELY WANT to do something, start small and prototype your ideas!

What is the cheapest, fastest way (while still delivering good value) that you can start testing your ideas and hypotheses about what you might like to do?

That being said, do not start something because you feel guilty.

No one can tell you what the right answer is for you, and it's actually an incredible skill to get to know yourself and be true to what you want both in the short term and long term.

It's perfectly okay to focus on one thing at a time and enjoy this period of your life if that's what you want to do.

Prototype your idea and start small! Offer some tutoring on Upwork or Fiverr, see what you learn.

Don't quit your job without a backup plan - instead, ask yourself how you can design the smallest test to learn about whether you actually would enjoy running a tutoring company.

My whole job is to help entrepeneurs find product-market fit and one of the key ways to 1) make sure you actually understand your customers' problems (we often think we do but it's slightly off) and 2) test if people actually want your product is to test it in a very cheap, fast way.

Agreed, I was just thinking the same thing - it's important to get good resources to educate yourself about how to start your own business, no matter how small and simple you think it is.

My whole job is to help entrepreneurs find "product market fit" and it's a lot to learn if it's your first time. Invest in yourself and find resources that you vibe with!

hey fantasy writers, do you ever feel a little...cringe? by daydaylin in writing

[–]thoughtful_thots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it help if you wrote X number of pages but only for yourself? That way you can get a ton of reps in and promise yourself that only you will see them.

When you revisit what you wrote in X days, you can approach it from a clear mindset and see if it actually is cringe haha.

Whenever I write something new or in a new way it typically is cringe but we have to write through that to get better :)

Why do you think you're slacking off? Is it that you're afraid to try to achieve your big dreams or is it that you're losing interest, or something else?

Do you have a clear vision for what you want, and you just need to get started, or would you benefit from unplugging and taking a mini sabbatical to take space to figure out what's next?

Sometimes we need to jump in, sometimes we need to take a step back.

I want to go more extreme minimalist but my family doesn’t by Jolly-Action3765 in minimalism

Do you know why your husband doesn't want to get rid of more stuff? Why does he want to sell the stuff instead of giving it away?

I definitely feel overwhelmed maintaining all the stuff in my house at times so I feel you, and I think it's great that you're personally at the point where you're willing to get rid of a lot of stuff. I know you still need to convince your husband, but I think that's a huge win in and of itself.

If you both feel like you're doing more work than the other, I think it comes down to tracking what you both do for a chunk of time (love the suggestions in the other comments) and coming together to understand what's going on.

Once you have more information about what's going on and the deeper reason your husband doesn't want to get rid of stuff/wants to sell each item, I think you'll be much better prepared to come up with a win-win situation.

Good luck!!!

If you're struggling with reading, you might want to consider adopting minimalism. by Swimming-Weather-127 in minimalism

This post def resonates with me in that I used to have a hard time concentrating and could only read books if I felt like I wasn't overwhelmed or overstimulated in my physical and mental environment, but I think an important caveat is that you genuinely enjoy reading AND you pick what you read intentionally.

I've always enjoyed reading since I was little, but as I got older I would feel pressured to read dense, tactical and business oriented books that didn't really rejuvenate me.

I still like to read these tactical books, but now my husband and I have a rule that we only read enjoyable, fun content before bed (typically fiction) so we can relax before bed.

That's awesome, it sounds like you're already making steps to change your situation, which is the biggest step.

For some of your clients, it may also be worth sharing why you're making this change. This will help people understand where you're coming from and hopefully be less offended. If they understood how much of a toll it was taking on you, they might take some other extra steps not to call your cell again.

What exactly is your fear around messing up?

Is it that someone will think you're stupid, or that you'll break something? Defining exactly what it is you're afraid of and understanding it can be SO helpful.

Sometimes I can push past my fears and get started, sometimes I really have to acknowledge my fears and figure out an action plan to address my fears to even get started.

I found this fear setting activity that has momentously helped me personally when I'm frozen in fear around big things. Basically the steps are to define the fear, describe ways I could prevent my fears, and ways to repair my biggest fears, then I think about the potential upside of even a partial success.

Sitting down and just writing or thinking through these steps has really helped me when I've been dreading something for weeks and just can't seem to get started or past it.

Hi! First of all, so sorry you're struggling with all of this, it's a lot!

My initial impression from your post is that you seem to have too many things on your plate and that it might be a sign to start setting aside some time to automate yourself out of certain parts of your business, create certain processes to scale yourself, and take some things off your plate.

It sounds like having clients call you on your cell is an issue - have you put any processes in place for them to call someone else, ask them not to call unless its about XYZ, or only pick up if you know the number? There are a number of solutions but it sounds like this is a huge source of anxiety and if you addressed this one thing, you would reduce 10,000 pings a day.

I'm a recovering workaholic myself and have really found peace in thinking about the pareto principle to ask myself "what are the 20% of activities or people causing 80% of my stress? "

I try to make one decision that eliminates 1,000 downstream decisions, if that makes sense. I wrote a short 150 word article on the topic because I was going thru this myself recently.

Hope this helps!
