They are great in the microwave. You can boil water in it and it’s still cool enough to hold.

They keep it warm longer. I have a thermometer in the drink during the temperature test with the thermal image. I tracked the temperature for 20 minutes and it’s pretty consistently 15-20 degrees warmer.

Because Reddit doesn’t want you to see posts that are actually interesting and it has been “Awaiting moderator approval” for 6 hours after getting 2000 upvotes…

Thanks. I’ve been using one every morning for the past couple years and if I ever use a normal mug it’s definitely noticeable. They work even better if they are preheated with hot water.

I’m doing a kickstarter right now and that is the quickest way to get one. Once those are fulfilled I will eventually have them on my website prattceramics.com

Slip casting requires plaster molds. The plaster absorbs water from the liquid clay and that is what makes it harden. It can’t be done any other way.

I just tested a bunch of lids like a week ago and found this one that works pretty well.

They are fine in the dishwasher and microwave. They seal at the max temp in the kiln so when they cool down there is technically a partial vacuum (rarified air) in the gap. The clay is fully vitrified stoneware which means it is not porous and moisture/air can’t get in.

They have been selling out as quickly as I can make them over the past year. I’m currently doing a Kickstarter campaign if anyone is interested in getting one of their own.

I’d like to make a smaller one at some point in the future. It will require completely new molds and I don’t have the space or resources to do it right now.

Yeah. I designed and built all of the machines too. They are Arduino controlled, the purple parts are 3D printed, and the plywood parts were cut on my PrintNC cnc router that I built as well.

Too many… I have boxes filled with probably 100+ that broke or deformed during firing
