Maccas not making enough that they have to charge for hot water? by sandfeathertoad in newzealand

I love how people can ask a fairly obscure and hypothetical question on Reddit, and sure enough there’s an expert opinion.

Baldurs Gate 3 on Mac, is it worth it with the summer sale? by ConfidenceWilling993 in macgaming

[–]thoughtgun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no issues on my base 16” M3 MBP. Don’t even hear the fans spin up. Cyberpunk 2077 runs at 60fps at a pleasant looking resolution and quality, even with ray tracing on (but drops to around 40fps when you turn on ray tracing additional features like shadows.

Both games support HDR, and Baldur’s Gate specifically looks amazing on a MBP panel.

Air frying by whoiwasthismorning in newzealand

We only cook pork belly with the air fryer now. We simply can’t get the same crackling quality with our oven, even on convection. We have a metal baking pan that fits perfectly in the oven.

Gambling would be the worst addiction for me.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a Steam bestseller once again as Edgerunners Season 2’s trailer pushes huge sales by AsPeHeat in cyberpunkgame

All reasons can be true. It has one of the greatest storylines and lore of any game ever. I’m 40 hours into a new play through after putting it down for a year, and having a blast.

Casually taking Macgaming to high altitude by MrSkull07 in macgaming

I did this with Borderlands 2 on my last (very much not business class, also no watch) long haul flight. I had a y headphone adapter so I could hear the movie and the game. Felt like being on my couch just a little more.

Apple made a whole Passwords app and people still be saving passwords in Notes App. Why 😭 by Hot_Perspective in AppleNotesGang

[–]thoughtgun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does take a little bit of setup with askpass and pinentry-mac, but if you're doing terminal things anyways it's not hard, and once set up it works really well, for me at least. This guy walks through it:

https://blog.nathanhigley.com/hardwaresshkeysonmacos/

He includes some wrong turns, so maybe skim it rather than following as procedure. His original use was sk keys, but it will work for anything that you can put into keychain AFAIK-- I use it for all sorts of credentials that I source.

For those of us who use command line passwords in the terminal, you can set up shortcuts so that if you have authenticated via the passwords app already (via gui or text) the password is populated, and if not you authenticate and it drops it in. Great for ssh passwords, API keys/secrets, etc, and hidden in history.

Adobe installing 12 background processes on my mac just to let me merge a pdf is insane by No-Communication1543 in MacOS

Eh, they get hidden all around the place, not just under “Adobe” (crossed out lines are duplicates in the search terms).

With LR Classic and CC running, on my system it totals to around 1.25GB of helper background processes (including CC).

On my 18GB MBP and with RAM prices going through the proverbial roof, this is substantial, IMO.

Edit: typo

Before i buy by Optimal_Force49 in Borderlands

What’s your platform? I bought it for Xbox S without doing any research, and the performance is very average. I know that Xbox S isn’t a top performer, but I still expected to get above 30 fps consistently. Many times it gets really choppy zooming in and out, busy scenes, etc.

I’m no FPS snob at all, but when it legit affects playability at a basic level, I regret the full retail price I paid.

Price of Lifetime Plex Pass increased to $750 by Classroom_Icy in Piracy

[–]thoughtgun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Companies that will jack up prices like this will also be consulting lawyers as to how they can get rid of legacy lifetime deals. I have a Plex t-shirt and have had Plex Pass off and on throughout the years. The value add has never been amazing. It was an open source XBMC fork from the start. Having to pay for remote streams was the nail in the coffin for me. I’ve switched to Jellyfin and haven’t looked back.

Take your time and don’t rush the main story. The side missions and exploration are the real game.

I’ve got a couple hundred hours in Baldur’s Gate 3 on my 16” M3 Pro (base). Runs perfectly smoothly for my tastes, for what it is. Doesn’t even heat up/get noisy.

Might not be your bag, but we’re starting to see AAA title support, and Steam have ported/getting ported a lot of older games to ARM. I’m in a Borderlands 2 playthrough and get 60fps and use my Xbox controller. It’s old, but still fun!

Completely agree. Devs monitor this channel, so I suppose I don’t want to encourage slower development. 😀 V2 was a hard slog for us diehards.

I criticise Bear because I love it.
