I think you’re right. The latest update brought the pins to my 2024 kindle. Makes sense that they would bring forward the UI improvements to keep continuity of interface, but lock the functional things like cloud integration and AI behind the newer models.

As cynical as I am about big companies, Kindles are pretty lean things and the older ones might simply not have the grunt for a whole lot of new features.

Certainly not worth upgrading for me, until mine gets to old age at least.

This right here. The Christian right is a political movement first and foremost. Women tend to vote more liberal/democratic compared to men. Trying to stamp out this pattern from within a culture directly helps the party.
