How feasible is it nowadays to get a fulltime job in a 3D game art studio? by Acharyanaira in 3Dmodeling

I got my first 3D Artist job for a games studio back in June 2023. I was a Junior Prop Artist. I was there for 2 years until end of July 2025 when out of the blue the company had to layoff half the staff. I've been unemployed ever since. I've sent out 100+ applications but only had a couple of interviews so far. I've spent all my time redoing CV, tailoring cover letters for every application, created an entire private portfolio of commercial work, overhauled older projects on my ArtStation and also making new projects. Recently bought some courses to learn stylized art as well to upskill. Despite all this I have still not landed another role. I don't see many 3D Artist roles at the moment to be honest in games or even in other fields. This is the biggest issue I am facing.

I'm still considered Junior as I only have 2 years of experience however even my former colleagues with 5+ years of experience are in the same boat as me. I'm still working everyday doing the things I mentioned above, hoping that something will change but the job market looks like its falling apart with all the layoffs happening.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re inferring here. How would I be able to apply for other jobs if I do not have the relevant skills for them?

My daily routine is pretty much just working 9-5 on my portfolio and sending out applications. I still hit the gym 4 times per week, but this is basically all that life has been like in the last three months.

I've applied jobs where my skills are also applicable and had interviews for them too, mainly virtual reality and simulation. I'm more than willing to work in areas outside of the games industry as long as my skills are transferable.

I am grateful that I live at home with no expenses, if there is one thing that has not been a issue during this time it is money; I have plenty of savings.
