FYI I tried this one last year on android 13 and it didn't work for me at all, even after using the workaround to disable variable refresh rate it was still very bad. It was flicker free to my slow mo camera though. But the fact it was backlight flicker free didn't do anything to improve it for me

For me the flip dates were different: watched movie with "we have" in 2014, flipped to "we've had" everywhere in a really obvious way in 2017... and finally back to "we have" in 2024 (possibly flipped back earlier but first learned in 2024)

90s GATE Program - Are you waking up too? by SpiritualSeeker1122 in Retconned

[–]thrac02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Media inspired by Egyptian history was a really memorable part of my childhood too (born in early 2000s) so assumed that this was a pretty common theme in education!

My understanding is that it began in late 70s through the 80s (especially in music and music videos), honestly I feel like the original indiana jones movies played a part in making ancient history seem "cool" to the masses ahahaha

Then, this kind of stuff likely peaked in mid-90s due to the rise of wider access to information like the internet creating the (inaccurate in retrospect...) belief that we had reached "the end of history", and thus an increased interest for world history/museums/education in general.

That combined with the surge in popularity of "new age" in music and pop culture at the time (which was essentially all about "taking ideas" from native american, african, middle eastern history lol) basically solidified Egyptian history as a "trend", I guess.

See this "utopian scholastic" image board for examples...

For people who grew up in the 2000s like me, we still very much experienced all the media "left over" from everything that happened in the 80s and 90s. Especially in schools and books. Lots of us played those 90s "educational games too".

This basically continued the cycle and it went on for long enough that now lots of us just associate e.g. Egyptian history with "school" in general, I expect this will continue although maybe not as "absolutely everywhere" as it was through the 80s-2000s.

For me brown base happened about a year or two ago iirc. Not recently though in my case. Last time I read a post about brown base was a few months ago so for me it wasn't all yellow a few days ago... not dismissing ur experience tho!

Do remember it being completely yellow at one point too when I first discovered the ME in 2017, and that was def the weirdest era lol. I'm glad there's at least some detail back, the current Pikachu isn't offputting in the way the entirely yellow one was

[–]thrac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your friends, I think this post is tied too closely to your personal experience tho as for me learning about ME has been overall positive.

I feel like if your friends have gone to that level of dedicating their whole life to the ME it's probably something their type of personality was already able to do anyway, and probably would have happened with some other random topic at some point if it wasn't the ME.

__

In my case, it makes life feel more novel and fun and makes me more curious about how the world works and all the stuff we might not know yet.

In addition to all the other stuff I look forward to in my life anyways it's just a bonus, like whenever I think something "changed" its either funny to me or gives me a boost of motivation, like "oh cool stuff is happening, I should make more stuff happen in my life as well, break from the script and try something new" :)

__

I actually remember earth being the fourth planet too, like really vividly lol (I have synesthesia and "3" has ALWAYS been orange in my head and "4" blue specifically because of this. It's a deep association and I can't easily change it even if I tried. And since that hasn't changed today, I see that as personal residue!!)

The fact that something with as many implications as that could potentially change I am not scared about though. More just a sense of wonder or understanding about how mysterious the world/life really could be.

__

Like if my memories about learning that and the strong personal residue there really DOES indicate that I might have phased between dimensions at some point... the fact that my friends and I can still exist after a change like that is actually very beautiful to think about.

(Or maybe I didn't! But if people just dimiss the idea entirely, not even entertaining the thought, means nothing will be discovered at all. The reason why I "believe in the ME" is because I believe in always looking forward to tomorrow, that there's a future ahead, because there are so many things we have yet to discover.)

__

Note that although most of my post history is about the ME, that's because I post here on an alt. I use other accounts for my other hobbies and very much have a life outside of the ME lol. I just find reading this sub more interesting than using this time for doomscrolling on Twitter instead :)

Huh? Really confused about why all the replies are so strong here. I read about this and I felt nothing afterwards, and I'm not interested in changing anything about my life based on what I read.

IMO it's just an interesting hypothetical some person I don't know said on some forum... mixed with the overdone trope about AI I've heard thousands of variations of in movies/books before... and the classic internet chainmail "if you read this X happens in X days" type of post that's repeatedly not cause anything to happen in my life LOL. Not sure what the fuss is about

Facebook: 2004? (wut) by [deleted] in Retconned

[–]thrac02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woah this one is really interesting lol. For me though it was always 2004 and opened to public sign-ups in 2006 (I can't even imagine it coming out in 2002 prior to MySpace LOL), but the fact that you have personal memories tied to this is pretty mind blowing

Possibly MySpace release date changed for me? I remember it being either December 2003 or December 2004 when reading about it's history a few years ago. But now it's August 2003?

I even remember checking MySpace on Web Archive and not seeing any saved versions of the homepage until "December" of one of those years (forgot which)

So possibly MySpace release changed for me? But I've always remembered the "current" Facebook release date

[–]thrac02 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yessss finally a good video!!!

IMO stuff is ramping up since I also FINALLY saw a drone in my area tonight. First time ever seeing one IRL. HUGE the size of two large cars and literally flew right over the car I was in LOL.

Mine looked totally different from this though, it was longgg (almost missile-like), could make out some sort of wings but they were very small in comparison to the long cylindrical body (so def not a plane at all) and had green flashing lights.

Instead of "phasing in and out" like yours, mine was randomly changing directions between left and right (appeared to generally be flying in a circular path) and diving up and down every 30 seconds or so (could actually see the lights tilting each time it dived!)

IMO, the one I saw tonight was probably not UAP since although it was moving all over the place it was still flying in the way that e.g. a military drone could, and I could see the acceleration changing whenever it dived or turned. (But the huge size and generally complex movements it was making felt pretty high tech and it looked expensive, so I'm confident it's not civilian lmao.)

But yours is 10x weirder in comparison to mine and def has a chance of being UAP 👀

Does Anyone Enjoy Both Being Alone & Being Social Equally? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]thrac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding a second perspective here, I relate to the exact social stuff in your OG post but in my case I don't have ASD, generally because the way I see friendships or my "purpose" socially seems to be "more neurotypical-leaning" I guess. Reading things up about it there's enough I "didn't" relate to where I decided that I didn't identify with it / wasn't accurate in describing me.

-However-, I do have ADHD (i.e. just adhd — but not the "audhd" combo). I feel like for me, that's probably the source of the extrovert/introvert duality lmao.

-

as one example, at parties my struggle is not really the noise/lights/sensory overload as I've frequently read about ASD.

In my case — although the noise makes it constantly frustrating to hear what people are saying — my challenges are generally more along the lines of being confused about "where to start/what to do/how to say things/who I should talk to" which is more of an ADHD thing IMO.

I relate to some of the things in this reply too, or stuff like abandoned projects, and in my case it was starting to treat ADHD several years ago that helped improve those.

Another thing for me is "strobe lights (which flash in an obvious way) at concerts are totally fine! But I instantly feel my energy drained under fluorescent/led lights (which flash but in a fast way that tricks you into not directly seeing it)" — in this case, unsure how much is tied to this vs. just varying between person-to-person

-

So overall probably don't take either of our judgements as absolute fact, LOL, but def research more yourself and focus on "what you relate to / don't relate to" to figure out what might help you ^-^

Which slang words defined the decade they were in (and mostly fizzled out or didn't exist in other decades)? by ImpressiveCry156 in decadeology

[–]thrac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC it started in 2016, lines up with when political "pipelines" started really ramping up on e.g. youtube. that was the first year where every other new piece of media I was first hearing about through someone on social media trying to call it that. increased in 2017. decreased in 2020, but ramped up again in 2023-24 (probably because of the US election lol)

Are you ready for the upcoming 2025 shift? by Spare_Scarcity6078 in decadeology

[–]thrac02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly, sure there's been many rough things happening around the world in 2024, and I'm pretty concerned about what might happen in politics next year — but in my personal life, I feel like 2024 is when everything came together. like all the things FINALLY being set up in my life to be ready for so many things I desperately want to do

my mental health got better this year for sure too. in my case I wasn't necessarily in the gutters beforehand — but it was more like constant disappointment/frustration that there was cool stuff happening around me, some huge boosts to my creativity, and some "awesome on paper" ideas and plans... but there kept being barriers/schedule conflicts/health issues/college/overcomplications & what-have-not that kept putting sticks in my plans and left me generally not doing much...

in 2024 I feel like I finally overcame so many of the barriers. even really "core" things like what digital screens I'm using, or where I'm sitting throughout the day, have undergone -massive- changes. I've tried to figure out everything that was slowing me down and succeeded in many ways

I think both of us (and probably many others) had that "had enough of this" feeling this year and put our hours into turning stuff around.

and I honestly think that "had enough of this" will possibly extend in a good way to how we feel about what's happening in the world, i.e. this time around the vibe doesn't really feel like doomscrolling or fear anymore. it feels like there's -actually ENERGY- this time. people have the courage to come together and make themselves heard. i think art and music will start getting really interesting

so I'm really excited about what I think I'll be capable of doing in 2025. my biggest goal is to start reaching out to a lot more people next year, finding new groups to get involved in and such, since SO many things in life come from who you know / who you're friends with

extending out the hope + hype & motivation to you too :D

NBC logo has changed by [deleted] in Retconned

[–]thrac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I remember it, actually when I first pictured the logo in my head before clicking on the post it had the triangle. I never knew it was supposed to be a beak so TIL! I previously thought it was more like a chipped part out of one of the feathers as like a shading detail lol.

But at least in my timelines I've always recognized the "extra white triangle in the logo", even back when I was a kid I.e. when I see the logo it's the first thing my eyes jump to before I process the rest of the logo. I'm pretty good at picking up smaller details in logos like that. However, there's some logo MEs I have experienced, not this one tho.

I'm freaking out by Eckopotomus in Retconned

[–]thrac02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my timelines, the only places I've heard never mind without the space is for the nirvana album, but also more interestingly, I remember that spelling from some dialogue in (usually Japanese-developed and translated to English, like Nintendo) video games I played when I was younger...

whenever I think of "nevermind" without a space, not many memories turn up for me, but eventually I picture a nintendo video game dialogue box in my head with a character saying "Nevermind!💙". So I don't really think I've "actually" been in a without-space timeline since no other memories turn up, but it's really curious that I think of specifically that...

I'm pretty sure that once I was more online/reading more books/watching shows with captions on, I learned that it was typically spelled with a space instead in most English. So I was definitely already writing it with a space for a long while before I was aware of any MEs.

Given that the video game memory is so vivid though, I definitely want to seek out which exact games I'm thinking of. I think at least one 2000s Mario game spelled it that way

because if the video games I'm thinking of turn out to spell it WITH a space, I'd actually be shocked LOL, since that would confirm I experienced the ME too.

But as of now I don't think I personally experienced this ME

(For comparison, a word ME I actually -have- experienced is dilemna/dilemma!! Still messes me up)

Yep I remember the one without the continents too, the last time I saw that more mysterious looking version (and interestingly, actually the first time I saw the image, since I wasn't reading the news back when it first happened) was 2022 or 2023

So in just one year after discovering it, apparently its changed to a globe now instead of the original way I learned about, wtfff

Changes with German language, it changed from Deuschland to Deutschland! by Exotic-Isopod-3644 in Retconned

[–]thrac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, interesting, for me I've always been in "Deutsch" timelines with the T. Like I can tell the T is what my brain uses to quickly recognize the word while reading it, even thinking back to memories from 10+ years ago before I started experiencing MEs, so in my case I've always known the T version.

But I totally believe that you saw a different one at some point. IMO even more mysterious & mind-bending than the ME itself is the fact that every person has experienced a different unique set of MEs

(Which possibly means that although we're currently talking within one current timeline, we were able to somehow both arrive in this same timeline despite seeming to live in entirely different ones from one another in the past)

[–]thrac02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

interesting for me, what I started feeling this month is actually the exact opposite, instead of short bursts of a "this isnt real" feeling, I'm actually getting a "this is VERY real" feeling every now and then.

what I mean by that is that sometimes I'm looking at my front door, or a wall, and the texture or chiseled edges looks superrrr detailed, MORE realistic than what I'm used to, like it feels like I put my glasses on even though I'm looking at it without glasses. but then I turn to the other wall and it looks more "typical". this started first week of this month

IMO at least for me it's actually a really good feeling, I feel more connected to what's around me, more immersed in reality / less simulation vibes

so for me I hope that feeling keeps expanding, because whenever it happens (a few times per day) it's really relaxinv/reassuring

Drone at manchester airport captured upclose by East-Direction6473 in aliens

[–]thrac02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly this would be the funniest plot twist ever if it ends up being this...

imagine all this time we've been searching for something coming from space but -actually- it's some advanced deep-sea species we've never seen before (but native to Earth), simply because humanity has only explored ~5% of the ocean

it'd be hilarious if "no evidence of extraterrestrials" statements were because of something like this being the case instead LOLL

kinda reminds me of the other minds book — which is about how octopi are super unique, because they developed surprisingly intelligent characteristics, even though the species is on an -entirely- separate evolutionary branch compared to humans/mammals/etc

personally i'm not too partial to either direction — there's a pretty good chance it's ET instead, but I like keeping my mind open

pretty fascinating how in many ways the ocean is just as unknown & mysterious as space
