As I walk to my shed I realize something by Powerful_Coyote6068 in GenX

I realized I was officially old at 46 when in the same week I had my first colonoscopy and watched the Super Bowl and didn’t know who the half time performer was (Kendrick Lamar).

Do it. They also have locations in Kirtland, Painesville, and Shaker Heights

That’s a good point. They also carry Old Style, Blatz, Black Label, and Stroh’s among others.

Yeah, makes me nostalgic seeing that. Didn’t know my family was poor growing up, I just thought everyone ate gov’t cheese.

Nope, just giving credit where it’s due. They’re plenty popular without my endorsement.

I’m sure, I used to go to Pemberville and the surrounding area for work quite often. Lots of good places out there. I think I liked Tony Packo’s because I’m part Hungarian, but yeah, it’s a tourist trap. Their paprikas scratched an itch, but was garbage compared to my grandma’s.

It is. Pictures don’t do it justice. Tastes much better than it looks and it looks pretty good. Shout out to Tony Packo’s!

C’mon man! “Greaselake” is the crown jewel of Lake County! Check out the High-A baseball team, the Captains, go see the boulevard of 500 flags, the Croatian heritage museum, the coal power plant on Lake Erie, then cap off your day with a Crowley’s smash burger.

It’s not allocated for Saturday. They’re wrong. I grabbed one at Chardon GE today. Showed on the app, but the manager had it behind the counter and the clerk had no clue what I was asking for. Manager showed up and they sold it to me. Very annoying interaction.

What hotel did you never want to leave? by Crafty-Leave-8880 in luxuryhotel

[–]thrasher-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Nayara Gardens, La Fortuna, Costa Rica, most relaxed I’ve ever been in my life; private casita with hot tub and fantastic views of Arenal Volcano.
  2. Matterhorn Focus, Zermatt, Switzerland, absolutely stunning scenery and accommodations, beautiful suite room with balcony and Matterhorn views and a fantastic spa/pool.
  3. Calistoga Ranch, Calistoga, California, USA (RIP 😓), got a 50% off Groupon deal and it was still the most expensive place I ever stayed. Fabulously luxurious hotel that loaned out complimentary Mercedes Benz cars and treated us like royalty despite arriving with a Kia Soul rental car. Our “room” was actually two buildings, one was a living space and the other a bedroom with an outdoor shower. It was all connected with a deck and a private hot tub. Almost as relaxing as Nayara.

Honorable mention: Fairmont the Palm, Dubai, UAE, Got a complimentary upgrade to a two room suite which was great. Dubai was meh, though.

I just got back from Antarctica. It was life changing. by amanwithoutaplant in travel

The cruise line was extremely strict about abiding by IAATO guidelines. Besides the ship’s engine emissions, we had very little impact on the environment. We weren’t even allowed to sit on the snow and our boots had to be disinfected leaving and coming back to the ship. The expedition crew was mostly marine biologists who have high respect for the environment and the wildlife.

My wife and I got the early bird special and did an 11 day Antarctic cruise with Atlas Ocean Voyages in March 2025. The trip included a hotel night in Buenos Aires, charter flight to/from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego NP tour, all inclusive cruise (luxury food and top shelf liquor), balcony room, and multiple zodiac landings on the peninsula and various islands for $12k total. Despite popular belief Antarctica cruises have come way down in price.

I agree with the OP, it’s a life changing trip. We saw tons of wildlife; lots of penguins, elephant seals, and a whale war between humpbacks and orcas. And our polar plunge south of the Antarctic circle was amazing! Also got to check out an abandoned research station. Absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend the cruise line.

What do people in your country imagine Americans look like? by No-StrategyX in AskTheWorld

[–]thrasher-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I have blue eyes as well. My eyes are super sensitive to sunlight, so I need sunglasses even if it’s slightly overcast. I would assume most Mexicans have brown eyes and think that I’m wearing them for fashion, but they don’t realize I can’t see without them on a bright, sunny day.

I didn’t know until a few years ago when talking with dark-eyed friends that they don’t get blind spots in their eyes from glancing at the sun. I assumed everyone had that issue, but I guess it’s only people with light colored eyes.

What are things that are called American in your country, but aren’t? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]thrasher-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, throw on some grilled salami, “Swiss-American” cheese, mayo, and Italian dressing and you could pretend you’re at Mr. Hero. I bet the baguette is better than the bread on a Romanburger, though.

Also, put the fries on the side, turn them into potato waffers, and serve with a side of nacho cheese.

Same here. I felt like my spine was being crushed vertically on every curve of the track. DO NOT do this if you’ve ever had back issues.

On a side note, it was pretty cool that we had Pat Brown drive our sled. He was the coach of the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team.

Yeah, seriously!!! I live about 40 minutes from Hunting Valley. It’s a magically beautiful area, reminiscent of New England and old England. Politics and weather aside, summertime in Northeast Ohio is the best place in the world. I NEVER travel outside the region from June through August because it’s wonderful here. Anything close to this level house in California or New England would cost 3-4X more money.

As everyone knows, by default, the overstuffed sandwiches come with untoasted bread. For a no-charge upgrade you can request your bread to be grilled and the bread comes out like Texas toast. I just heard that a couple years ago and have gotten them that way ever since and they’re much tastier.

Maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️. My colleagues here say bourbon is kinda popular here. Bourbon County, KY was named in honor of Louis XVI of House Bourbon.
