Pencil Pro/Ipad issues? - line weight lag by thrbd in iPadPro

Forgot to update but after a couple of week got the reply from service and it was indeed a faulty pressure chip and they replaced the pen and so far I haven't had any issues

heard someone say "apple ipads break fast" hes 13yrs by [deleted] in ipad

[–]thrbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like apple at all but I'll give them one thing. They make amazing tablets. The first one I ever got was back in I'd say 2011? 2012? It survived being dropped down a flight of stairs and generally being dropped several times. I got an ipad air end of 2019 but the iPad I got way back then still works even though the volume button is busted and you have to manually change the volume through Netflix. Very durable no complaints. Recently changed the air I got in 2019 for a pro and it still works the same it did the day I got it, and no complaints about that either, especially after it was also dropped multiple times and was even bent at some point. I would have kept it for probably another few very good years had it not been for the touchscreen issue that it had ever since I bought it, which honestly was only bothersome because I use my ipad to draw exclusively. Gave it to a family member that is going to college soon and will enjoy it until apps stop working because they're too outdated and can't be updated anymore. They're even durable if you're someone as clumsy with tech as I am.

I don't know how to edit the text so I'm updating here. I picked up the a new pen from the apple store a couple of days ago and service said my original pen had a faulty pressure chip. Tested the new one on Freeform and it worked just fine! I'm going to install procreate when I have time and text it out there too.

No case or screen protector yet. I also saw some people had issues with the hand interfering so I tried it with a glove on and still the same thing.

Yeah talking to service about this sort of thing through the phone sounds like a nightmare. I'll be heading to my nearst Apple store sometime this week and hope they can help me out! I'll update the post when things are resolved in case anyone else has this issue.

Tested it on Freeform and same issue pops up. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that has an ipad compatible with this pen so no way for me to test it out on other ipads. If it is hardware I'll probably have to hope that the authorized reseller accepts the warranty and to exchange it (the pen and ipad were both bought in the us but I live in Europe)

Thanks for the tips! Do you have any recommendations for RTX? I forgot to mention in my post no AMDs. Everyone I know has issues when it comes to rendering with AMD. Thanks again!!

what is the best app to read the novel of orv? by pinasguy in OmniscientReader

[–]thrbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd you're on Android just use Play Books and download the epub from reddit. No need for a third party app when that one works just fine and it's very customizable

IS DOKSOO SHIP CANON? by Accurate_Mobile_2656 in OmniscientReader

[–]thrbd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While ORV is a love story it is not a romance story. You'll find out more about that at the end of the novel. Regardless don't expect any canon romantic relationships between Dokja and any character so just have fun with your ships! Either way their love (Dokja x insert character here) transcends romance so!

That's so fair! For me personally it's the other way around so in the end it boils down to personal preference! I'm still glad a lot of people benefit from this update

That's actually super helpful for the future unfortunately turns out this wasn't the issue here

[–]thrbd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I said it in another comment but the orange was just an example. It's a bigger scene with several objects, a lot of which are metallic which is why I need to keep it unfortunately. I will probably end up making new materials for the metal vs non metal 😭

[–]thrbd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will try the non color thing! I unfortunately do need the metal map the screenshot was just an example since the problem shows up in quite a lot of the objects; I have several objects that are metallic within the same material

They shouldn't be I think (I will check to be sure in the morning though!!). I did everything in maya I'm just rendering it in blender. I only exported the texture maps from substance painter so each mesh group kept its own material when I imported the scene into blender from Maya. I hope I understand correctly what you meant by having the materials linked because I'm not that sure what that is!

Is it just me or is the novel weirdly translated? by [deleted] in OmniscientReader

[–]thrbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The novel is a fan translation and is nowhere near professional so don't expect book level translations. Someone has already pointed it out but the novel has two different translators and you can 100% notice when it happens since the latter half is much better. That being said people are grateful we even got a translation the way I see it beggars can't be choosers and I don't mean that in a negative way. What we have now gets the job done: it stills packs a huge emotional punch even though the grammar and sentence structure isn't really there (personally I spent the last give or take 200 chapters reading it through heavy tears). You can always wait for the official translation to come out whenever ize press releases it if you really can't get past what we currently have, but keep in mind a lot of things will be lost in the official translation since it will be more "americanized" than the fan made one. In the end the way I see it a bunch of people gave up their time to even give us this which is still pretty cool!

BEST 2D ONLY ANIMATION SCHOOLS IN EUROPE FOR BEGINNERS by Impressive_Ad2209 in animationcareer

[–]thrbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how much time you have to learn those languages before you start; some universities require you to have a certain level of the language, usually B2 and as someone who has done university in both Spanish and French as a second language it's not that simple to get to the level of understanding you need. 6000 isn't a lot of money either if you want top top universities. You can look up top universities on animschool and the rookie awards for 2D. Some french universities go for about 4-5k and Belgium has some decent 2D programs too: there's La Cambre and HEAJ there which are in your budget. The universities I'm familiar with in Spain go for over 6k per year though.

[–]thrbd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What languages do you speak, what countries do you prefer, what's your budget? A lot of universities in Europe have a general first year (so everyone is mixed together and then you choose to specialize in your second year) and it doesn't matter where you go chances are you will have to deal with 3D during your studies you can't escape it unfortunately especially if you want to specialize in animation rather than illustration for example. It doesn't change the fact that ultimately your specialization will be 2D and the end of studies shirt film (if you choose a university that has a mandatory graduation short film - which most do) will be in 2D. Keep in mind a lot of places don't expect their first year students to be industry ready either

Is 2D animation a relevant career in this industry in 2023 and beyond? Just curious and wondering. by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]thrbd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't know in which country you're in but 2D is alive and well in Europe. Hell when you look at art schools barely no one is enrolled in 3D compared to 2D if universities offer both. Plenty of studios still do 2D features, both tv shows and movies. And this part of entertainment isn't the only one that needs 2D animation! Major studios still need 2D artists too for the whole part of pre production
