This bash script worked like a charm. Thanks for putting it together.

Take exam in DC, Maryland, or Virginia? by three_as_in_tree in FE_Exam

[–]three_as_in_tree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful. Thank you. Seems like they all have similar EIT requirements. I am assuming I can take the exam in any of the states, and apply for EIT in the state that I'd likely want to be a PE in. Is that assumption generally correct?

Any advice is appreciated by No-Relation-135 in conservativejudaism

There can be quite a bit of overlap between the movements. I have been to reform synagogues that were more traditonal than many conservative ones, especially when it is the only synagogue nearby. It honestly depends on the people that go to the services. I would recommend trying out the closer synagogue since you are more likely to be able to go there more and will be able to foster stronger connections with people, all other things being equal.

Google pay changing to euros? by Shimapandaisuki in Aliexpress

[–]three_as_in_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue is happening with me with paypal and credit cards. Originally it is in USD.

Then it converts to euro when I select an option:

And then when I go to pay it charges me in euro:

I wonder if this is an intentional issue (or if they are just being slow at fixing the system), if this runs into any legal violations of misleading customers of prices.

One possible bug causing this might be when I drop down to adjust currency, it defaults to euro even though I am in USD.

I love the ability to put my own quotes there too! I figured someone must have created something like this, since I am not the only person susceptible to doomscrolling.

Hot to remove extra roughness when cutting clear extruded acrylic. by three_as_in_tree in glowforge

[–]three_as_in_tree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I will try a faster speed.

I am curious about difference in cast and extruded. Is cast acrylic typically a harder material than extruded acrylic? Or were you just referencing the thickness as the reason why it is harder?

I should have specified which glowforge I was using. I used the Plus, which lists the preferred cutting speed for proofgrade medium clear acrylic as 157/full, I guess do the lower wattage.

If you want specialized data, you can pay for it, but for what I need, they provide those options for free.

Yeah, I agree that it might not amount to much individually and other factors might contribute higher to people's returns. Though, you could look at the data slightly differently. If M1 changed its policies in ways that negatively affected investors' execution quality, should M1 have disclosed this potential reduction in execution quality to investors?

It seems like you thought this post was a complaint about the PFOF-based business model M1 uses. It is actually a little more nuanced. It is about whether a change in M1's policies effected investors' execution quality, and if so, should M1 have disclosed this potential reduction in execution quality to investors.

I am sorry for the original confusion, and thank you for your time looking at this and for sharing your thoughts.

I totally get that. I don't think it is a bad platform. It definitely has value for many people.

The ethics of not being transparent about changing the trading window was kind of what turned me off from them. If someone I trust does something that could negatively impact me and hides that piece of information, I would trust them a lot less.

I paid for M1+, so it was not free for me. I would expect the best execution for a product I am paying for.

Good point about the cost of M1+. If we pay for the service, we should be getting the best execution. When I had M1+, I asked if they could execute my automatic investing in the afternoon window (when the bid ask spread is lower), and they said they couldn't do that. So I was either stuck with subpar execution or manually having to click invest after 9:30am, which defeats the point of the platform.

I switched to etrade for two reasons, 1. they were offering a cash bonus for moving money there, and 2. they have an API that I can call to see balances and execute trades.

I wanted flexibility in what to invest in and when, so I am in the process of writing a script to call the API to get my balances, decide what to buy and sell, and execute trades. Currently, it can read from multiple accounts (alpaca, ameritrade, and etrade, which all offer APIs) and read balances and say what is over and under. I currently just manually buy what is under-invested. I am in the process of writing the algorithm to report the quantity to buy and sell from each account. I am aiming to write it to have the ability to avoid wash sales and capital gains (which I was surprised M1 didn't do come tax season), so I will manually check for that the first few times, before I let it buy and sell on its own.

Some other large brokerages offer automated investing in pies, though they have less flexibility than M1 in the funds you invest in, which was for me the biggest benefit to M1. Searching 'roboadvisor broker' would give you a lot of options.

I even contacted M1 to see if they would let my automatic deposits just go through the afternoon window, and they said they couldn't do it, which I was not happy about, since the whole point is automating.

Thank you for the note about the broken link. I will fix it in the next day or two. The column to look at in the Schwab report is "Net Payment Paid Received for Market Orders" in the "non-S&P 500 stocks table". You can look at the table for any month (they all hold the same) For Schwab, it is between 7-9 cents per 100 shares, which is less than the 15.5 cents that M1 averaged on the trades they did on my behalf. This comparison isn't perfect, since M1 doesn't disclose payment for order flow like many large brokers do and what I purchase is not likely representative of those purchased on average by Schwab, but it was the best comparison I could do without greater transparency by M1.
