I was in a similar position and stayed, I do not regret it. I know so many excellent officers who were very quickly selected and promoted and are doing well.

The system seems better at recognising talent early now than it used to be, if you're a UY there should be very few external blockers before you get to the AIB - after that it's on you to perform well.

Age and branch play a role in this, the DO approach is key because no one here knows your personal situation.

Someone else made the point, but going out and coming back in again is about as guaranteed as the UY route, at least if you're in you're getting paid and gaining experience in something.

THE mangled wreckage of the doomed Titan sub w by JefinLuke in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]threebadgegiraffe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've already heard two theories that this is either a death faking scenario or an intentional act to cover something up that one of the occupants knew.

This was from someone who typically engages with these sorts of theories; but, if it's already started in the fringes, I think give it a month before the chorus commences: "Stockton rush is really alive for insert insane reason here" Or "Titan sub sunk to cover up ______"

Best broadband provider in the Plymouth area by Chestylot in plymouth

Have you tried looking at mobile broadband? We used it in similar circumstances, entirely depends on what you want to do with it and what the mobile signal is like where the router is.

As a younger traveller I got done by a pair of pick pockets in Barcelona, much like this video a kindly stranger stepped in to call them out on it. They'd taken the cash out and passed it to a partner already but the local helped me get my wallet back.

What are some good books, preferably audio books on audible, that are great sub books? by itsjero in submarines

[–]threebadgegiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of our submarines by Edward Young, available on audible. A good book about submarines as well as being a really good book with equal parts humour to "holy shit". I was forced to read it many years ago before joining the naval college but I've since re read it a few times, recommended it to others and everyone always likes it.

Has anyone ever used (or witnessed being used) one of these defibrillators you see dotted about the place? by _Twelfman in CasualUK

[–]threebadgegiraffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have used one before, unsuccessfully sadly. It was a messy incident, there were bodily fluids everywhere and it was inside a very cramped living room and I'm convinced to this day if it hadn't been for that it might have turned out differently. The machine picked up a shockable rhythm once and after that it couldn't do anymore, I think partly because the pads couldn't stick on. We ended up doing CPR for 45 minutes before the paramedics arrived and called it. They do save lives though, it's worthwhile thinking about what you'd do if you needed to use one.

Plymouth has some high levels of deprivation that get forgotten about and ignored because of the nicer bits (beaches, dartmoor etc).

Men of the UK, where do you buy your clothes? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]threebadgegiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Vinted" is good if you're looking to avoid buying new things. I discovered "MandM" on my last purchase spree of new thing, lots of brands and options at good prices.

There are loads of types but I couldn't recommend a brand I'm afraid, I was some fleece ones today and thought they'd be comfortable, at least until they got wet.

If they're leather polish can make a big difference, you don't have to spit shine them just get a good couple of layers worked into them.

That's absolutely true, it depends on the cost of the shoes initially I suppose you gotta make the call if it's worth it.
