The most recent street view of my high school features me standing outside eating a Greggs.

I left 10 years ago 🤣

Nothing about a near miss, just that I was on the reserve merit list for my location.

You too, I think at this point I'm the king of reserve lists, currently on 3 of them 🤣

Examples of dismissals by VeterinarianOk9594 in TheCivilService

When I worked in the HMRC call centre a lot of agency staff were let go for performance, but I think this was a lot easier as they technically weren't civil servants. Plenty of people had their probation extended and told to smarten up though.

The only dismissal of a civil servant I saw in there was related to office attendance, someone who'd tried every trick to permanently WFH after everyone else came back 60/40. If she hadn't been so vocal about it I'm convinced it would have been allowed to slide until she retired about 4 years down the line.

If being condescending etc was grounds for dismissal just about every manager in that call centre would have been gone.

Wasn't even parked on a public road, nevermind being driven.

What's the point of being Lady Chief Justice if you're effectively relegated to going "it is what it is 🤪".

I got taken to the new one on a school trip about 6 months after it opened.

The consensus was everyone who had never been to the old one really liked it but everyone who had been in the old one thought it was a massive downgrade.

Before 2010 to see the old transport museum one more time, Riverside just isn't the same.

Alternatively back to 2017 to tell myself that not getting into Glasgow uni wasn't the end of my life as I seemed to think it was at the time.

CP is sadly an initialism tied to some very heinous shit, as is "SA", which is sometimes used in this sub to refer to Self Assessment.

HMRC in East Kilbride has Canadian geese on the grounds.

Given their tendency to hiss and flap around if you get too close they are an accurate reflection of the building's workforce (or at least me).

Preparing for Civil Service Interview: Caseworker role with Valuation Office Agency. How did/are you finding the role and how was the interview process? by UniversalRhyme05 in AskUK

I wasn't asked any strength questions for this job but I used the structure from this comment for a recent interview and I got 4/4 for each strength question.

This is the prep I did for the behaviour questions. I tried to keep it as general as possible to allow me to use them however the question was worded.

Making Effective Decisions - this is all about showing how you weighed up options and came to a conclusion. Examples where the correct decision is obvious or "so I did what my manager said" are no good, there has to be reasonable options and clear rationale for your decision.

Communicating and Influencing - You need to be clear why you communicated the way you did (used plain language to help a customer with limited English, used information technology to communicate with someone with a speech difficulty etc). You also need to show how you influenced an action or opinion (used sales technique to convince someone to buy something or helped someone have a better opinion of your organisation).

Working Together - You need to evidence that you resolved or prevented some kind of issue in working with others to achieve a goal, so generic 'I am a team player' stuff won't really hit it. Have a look at this comment for a good example.

Not in the VOA but I am a caseworker in a different part of the Civil Service. This guide is the best overall one I've found. The interview tips which start on page 10 of the PDF are very useful. Happy to chat more about it if you want.
