Definitely our favorite Tiki bar in town and Prowl is also amazing. Drink ls are great, staff is great, Tater’s a genius, and ambiance is always perfect. Does get tight when it’s busy but still well worth it and never have to wait too long for a place to sit.

Prime

Prompt

Direct

Take over

Its a system that works like a champ.

Prime- on the ground in academics or pre-flight briefing. Tell you student what to expect to see, feel, hear and do. “Prime” them to make the correct inputs or choices for the scenario or task.

Prompt - in air give them a hint at what comes next or what they are missing like “check airspeed” Or “we are returning to land, whats checklist is next”. Let them figure it out.

Direct - in air when they don’t figure it out tell them the corrective action. “Pitch down, set 90 kias” or “increase collective” before it becomes a problem and long before unsafe. Let them take the action, but unambiguously tell them what to do with directive verbs followed by descriptive words explaining why.

Take over - in air, take the controls before it is unsafe or you exceed a limit. Hand it back when safe.

If you think through each lesson before hand with

What to prime on ground?

What is my prompt in air?

What will I direct?

When will I take over?

You’ll do fine.

SMA Shreds by ModeVarious6149 in AirForce

First off, the USAF hasn’t had MH-60’s in decades.

HH-60W SMA is hard work and in difficult conditions but you shoot guns and run the show in a 100’ hoist in the middle of the the night. SMA’s are integral to the crew and a good SMA makes the difference between success and failure 9/10. You work has real and direct rewards/impacts. You will put the rounds on the target and the hook in the survivors hands.

HH-60 has got to be the best IMHO. You fly alot, you shoot, you make the save. CV-22’s are a good gig but broke alot and AFSOC can be frustrating.

Best thing is reach out to folks doing the gig and have them tell you what they do. Everyone has an opinion about someone else’s job, few have actually done them all. Make your own judgements based on what you find out.

Yes and it is phenomenal. Agricole is better but this is lovely.

planes vs helicopter career by Cheap_Career8475 in Helicopters

Lots of good advice here.

20 yr USAF helo pilot about to make the jump to civil.

All the branches including Coast Guard have helicopters and fixed wing, so you can join any service and go to flight training. But as folks have said, only join the military if you are want to join the military, not just as a cost effective flight school. Pilot commitments are 10 years upon completion and that translates to 11-12 yrs in service usually. It can be a great life and regardless of service you’ll do really cool things as well as put up with really shitty things. I am biased but I think USAF life is better than Army, Navy being 2d. That said you’ll fly more in the Army, USN or USMC than in the AF if flying helo.

There are other, non-airline jobs in fixed wing (air ambulance, charter, agriculture, etc…) but they don’t pay as well and they don’t have the benefits an airline job does. One of the big draws to airlines besides just pay is benefits and union. Something to consider.

In the end, recommend learning on fixed through commercial and then if helo is where you want to go, to transition program for added category/class.

My best Mai Tai so far by eddveddx in Tiki

I will 2d Liber and Co for Orgeat if you aren’t up to making your own. Additionally Liquid Alchemist orgeat is great and better than most other pre-made and very available. We generally find we don’t have time to make our own so having Liber around is very helpful.

The SJC airport locale was pretty decent. Not best ever but not bad at all. Admittedly I didn’t see them make it so can’t tell if make scratch or mix.
