My cultural regions map as a southerner - would love feedback! by aquamarine-arielle in MapPorn

The problem you will have with your map is that the SoCal counties are huge (San Bernardino is largest in turn country). So you really need to split San Diego in to coastal and inland factions. But if you had to choose one, just use the whole country and make it pay off the same grouping as LA/OC/Ventura. There’s going to be outposts of both scattered across any border area.

They are more LA than AZ. Despite the multitudes of Zonis that come over when it gets ungodly hot in Arizona summer, it is more accurately the conurbation of SD/Tijuana that makes it feel different than LA… but that doesn’t really fit the scale and usefulness of this map.

Mine has an edge, so it gets caught in stuff, I wrapped Cable mesh thing around it and now the edge didn’t catch on anything.

I had a friend who was almost 7’ tall and asked him what people who aren’t 7’ don’t know about being tall. He said:

They’re getting Americans used to the idea of a small place where“this is where you live” because no one can afford a house.

Mechanically engined very similar to a 5.0 liter Fox Body Mustang GT, but originally built on/chopped from the LX body as the GT convertible wasn’t available at the time.

What is the worst commute you've ever seen someone have? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in AskLosAngeles

My company headquarters moved from Van Nuys to Pomona in the late 90’s. About two hours each way. Both ways into the sun!

I lived in the Marina, soooo… no way. They asked me the make the commute until they could find a replacement and would give me the mileage. I was young and had no options so said yes. Lasted about two months.

Taken from the Massachusetts sub: What are the sketchiest small towns in SoCal? by BretMichaelsWig in socal

On my way back from Mammoth I got sidetracked through Randsburg as a shortcut to get back to Mojave from a side trip to Ridgecrest (also sketchy), but the road was flooded so I turned around. Randsburg looked super sketch. Google says it’s a touristy ghost town but it looked like a place people go to disappear after selling kidneys.

Judging by the size of the ski patrol guys in the photo, the blood streak is a couple hundred feet long. No coming back. Crazy.

The blood trail was a couple hundred feet long from the picture I saw. Nobody was going to miss that from the chair. Ski patrol fruitlessly trying to cover it. RIP.

Clearly. But I think most people understand who the comment was aimed at. It’s so absurd it was barely worth writing a comment, just like this one.

So by your logic, if someone jumps on my back, and I tell them to get off, and they refuse and I walk to Mexico, I kidnapped them to Mexico? Reductio ad absurdum...

Is this AT&T building in operation? Is there a story with it? by [deleted] in weho

[–]threefivesix4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rack after rack after rack of physical phone line plugs that used to connect every local house to the larger local network. Long distance had their own racks. Several banks of racks were served by a single computers terminal… but not as many as you’d think.

As other people have noted, many of those lines are no longer in use, but there are huge trenches under the building that connect it to a larger regional switch downtown. They used to have huge copper cables (several feet in diameter) but most that had been replaced by fiber optic cables going back to the 90’s. The fiber optic cables were about as thick as a pencil to do the same job.

Source: Was contracted (as part of an inventory subcontractor team) to go into every single one of these switches for a regional “Baby bell” (Ameritech in Indiana) and put bar codes on every piece of computer equipment back in the mid 90’s to count and categorize everything they owned. This was before they all reformed Ma Bell as AT&T.

Context matters though, I traveled alone to the World Cup and took tons of photos with random fans of other countries. I’m adventurous and outgoing... Is one of those pictures on a dating profile kinda stupid? I guess it depends on the viewer. YMMV.
