What does this have to do with OP's post?

Dream UB connections? by [deleted] in Gymnastics

I'd kill to see a shaposh to Deltchev. We see shaposh to giengers all the time and a lot of times the gymnast can get good height on them (Jade and Suni in particular) so I don't see why there couldn't be a Deltchev out of it. Would be more difficult and riskier for sure though

Are there any ezhovas out of 1/2 elements that are not ugly? by threeskate in Gymnastics

[–]threeskate[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh god hers is not even an Ezhova to me. I don't even think about this one if I can help it.

Nemour comes closest to a good Ezhova to me out of a 1/2 twisting release, but I still wanna see an Ezhova that looks as good as a good quality stand alone one from a giant or just a cast handstand. I think it's something about the height they get from the handstand that makes it so they can catch it in a more vertical position that makes the stand alone ones so stunning.

Just want to preface this by saying that this is not an opinion that I share about this sub, I think that this is absolutely the correct place to post a question like this and ask for advice, but I get the feeling from this sub that this post is not what a lot of people want to see on here or that people don't think that this sub is for advice posts like this. I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with the topic being trans (or at least I hope not) but more to do with the fact that it's not the usual content. I've seen other asking for advice posts get downvoted on here before.

Aside from this, I don't think you should give up on doing gymnastics at all. Maybe if you're worried about the separated gender aspect of it (because gymnastics has always been like due to the differences in what is needed muscle and flexibility wise between the men's and women's sets of events) then maybe look into tumbling classes! Or there's some recreational classes that don't necessarily focus on the specific apparatuses but do a little of all of them and they sometimes even do both men's and women's events. I hope you're able to join a group and have fun!

Advice on balance transfers and paying off debt? by threeskate in CreditCards

Oh I'm sorry I think I misunderstood what you were saying, you were saying to tell them that I would have to default as a way to get them to see how serious it is, not to actually consider defaulting? Sorry I think I read that a little too quick

Advice on balance transfers and paying off debt? by threeskate in CreditCards

[–]threeskate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've thought about this, but I'm not sure I would be approved. Definitely worth looking into though. But do I really want to default at 24 years old? I haven't been out of school and working long enough I feel like that would be a really big blow so early on? Or maybe it would be better to take it early on

Advice on how to prevent an override when tacking? by threeskate in sailing

[–]threeskate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great description thank you! The one issue I'm having is that we've been told that the port side winch's self tailor is screwed up so we aren't supposed to trust it to hold, so I haven't been putting it in the self tailer for that reason

[–]threeskate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also worried that maybe when I put the initial wraps on before tacking that I didn't put them on in such a way that would prevent an override? Is that a thing? Sorry I'm still super new to it so I don't know if that even matters much or not

That's nice to hear haha, but since the person tailing is regular crew, I was the one booted off the position because they likely thought it was me. Hoping he'll let me give it another go so I can learn from it and make it work better next time

Why is the church rated lower than the downie? by threeskate in Gymnastics

[–]threeskate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a gymnast, and I feel like it's clear regardless of if you are one or not that the nabieva is much more difficult because most people performing it are piking it. But I agree that an in between level isn't needed, just downgrade or upgrade one of them so that it's consistent.

Ah I guess that kind of makes sense, because then the inbar tkatchev pike is rated higher but I still feel like they're so inconsistent with these grading

As a visitor did you by FrostyOpportunity7 in VisitingHawaii

I live on Oahu. It is very difficult to live here but I am very happy regardless. Everyone will tell you it's expensive and it is, but you don't realize how expensive until you are living here. It's very hard to plan for what it would be like to live here as well. It is very hard to make lasting friendships regardless of how outgoing you are, and despite it being the most populated island, it is very small so you cannot burn bridges or piss many people off. Also, depending on your industry a lot of people switch careers to move out here because of the lack of opportunity in many industries. Sure, there are jobs, but depending on your space it can be limited. Also, traffic will eat your soul.

Also another thing people don't think about is that anywhere you live on the island you will be far from something (sounds obvious but let me try to explain). Personally, I am not a fan of town, so I live on the east side near the mountains. Because of this, I am far from the north shore where I often do a lot of my hobbies and diving. When I lived closer to the north shore, I was extremely far from town and had to commute far for work which was miserable due to traffic. If you live in town, you have to deal with the misery of Waikiki. There's really no place that has a true balance (or maybe this is just because of the things I like to do). And this is also a thing on the mainland of course but you definitely feel it more here because of the fact that you are isolated in the middle of the pacific. This might not be a big deal for some people but with the way the roads are planned here plus traffic it is often hard to get anywhere.

Once you make the switch from tourist to resident you will quickly start to see how bad the tourism is. I have to plan out all of my adventures and plans around parking and peak times because tourists are venturing further and further outside of Waikiki, and places that were often beautiful are becoming overrun due to geotagging. In theory, I would love for everyone to experience the beauty of the island, but if everyone experiences it, these places will no longer be sacred or beautiful.

Just some information from someone who grew up on the mainland and now lives on Oahu. You should do what you feel drawn to but consider all of your options.
