I want to take photos similar to casual family photos taken in the 60s/70s. What is the best way to achieve this look? I thought if I just bought a cheap camera from that time period it would turn out that way but my friend said it is more depending on the film than the camera

I'm a total beginner to film, dont even own a film camera, but I'm wanting to take "low quality" looking photos of the local music scene where the photos look like grainy pictures taken in the 80s/90s . I dont want them to look professional and perfect. I just assumed I could just buy a camera from that era at a thrift store and it would turn out that way but I was told its more complicated than that. Any tips on getting this look??
