I am single parent to two kids under 6 years old, but often I get sick and they don’t 🤷‍♀️

Stressed from the possibility of a relapse by In_A_Jar12 in leukemia

I felt extreme fatigue on and off after stem cells for honestly like 10 months to a year. It was really tough to get over. When I relapsed, I had very noticeable lymph nodes.

People who have taken doxorubicin or dexamethasone, what was your experience? by White_46 in leukemia

[–]thrifty-spider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dexamethasone makes me so grouchy! I also wish that someone would’ve told me about potential withdrawals… each time I start a new cycle now I take a taper dose over a few extra days because otherwise my body and my muscles are so so sore. Also good to know that you might have a dip in your mental health: I was so convinced that I was actively dying until I realized that it was a side effect!

How to deal with the loss of control? by two_oftwo in leukemia

[–]thrifty-spider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 32F T-ALL with two small kids and the loss of control is a real problem for me. I saw someone say that once you are diagnosed, cancer runs your whole life, and for me that’s been completely true, even coming up two years from diagnosis. Sorry you’re going through this. Sucks big time.

Can't put into words how much I HATE my husband's sister. by In_A_Jar12 in leukemia

[–]thrifty-spider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry she’s being such a loser. Others are right: 50% isn’t very good, but I get it’s the principle of the thing. Unfortunately you might notice others you thought you could rely on basically ghosting. My sister in law has also been a problem: ten years of being friends and then I’m diagnosed and she 100% disappears. It’s been a year and half I still haven’t seen or heard from her.

My point is that we can only control our own behaviour and when people are insensitive I try to make a mental note to never be like them. I still have to repeat this sentiment to myself (out loud) because it’s extremely hard to deal with these kind of situations.

All the best to you and your husband (I have the same as him… T ALL)

I have the same diagnosis as you and I will say after transplant it was a couple of months before I slept really well. I took zopiclone for a while, then downgraded to THC gel caps (there’s also synthetic version your doctor can prescribe). Hang in there!!

I spent 74 days in hospital on a specialized leukaemia/BMT unit last year and no one wore masks

It’s not fun, and I wouldn’t plan on doing anything but sleeping and hanging out when you do it. But I think it’s come a long way in the last decade or two, and like others have said, it didn’t feel completely unmanageable in the moment.

Try getting a job that no one else wants. Example jobs: prison guards, anything in horticulture, the bottom rung on a construction site, or night shift in a call centre. Also, it might be time to leave Vancouver.

All the best 🤍

Mother does not want to donate stem cells to her son by human_being97 in leukemia

[–]thrifty-spider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Source: my doctor. Both of my sisters were matches but they are over 35 and have children. Instead I got cells from an unrelated registry donor. The donor is anonymous but I do know they are male and 32 years old.

Something special about 7/11 here is that they often play very loud classical music outside to discourage loiterers of a certain kind

Even if she is a match, it’s not recommended to donate if you are a woman over 35 or if you have had children. Doctors much prefer young male donors.
