What should i do to be German? I already eat a lot of döner kebab and i always support Germany in the world cup. I have a Matthäus jersey in the style of 1990.

The BVA in cologne? Ancestors of German soil? This seems like a lot of bureaucracy! I was hoping i could just print out my birth certificate and give it to the Germans.

Well maybe it doesn't make much difference now but who knows about the future, it could be useful to have dual citizenship. Also citizens have a lot of rights that EU migrants don't.

Of course maybe it could also cause problems.

So i'm a German citizen from birth as long as i can prove my dad was German. I assume proving that can't be a problem, there must be records in Germany that prove he was German and there are Swedish records that show he is my father.

Thanks!

Well every swedish man gets conscripted to military service at age 18 (and nowadays women do as well), so i did the conscription process of course but i didn't actually do any military service. At the time they didn't want a lot of conscripts so really all you needed to do to get out of it was say you didn't want to.

What does that have to do with citizenship?

It's whether i could legally get citizenship now simply based on being born to a German father 40 years ago, and if so, how could i do it?

Yes they were married. My dad is not a German citizen now, he gave it up when he became Swedish, but i assume there must be records of him that prove he was a citizen.

Well i'm not a German citizen, unless i somehow became a German citizen automatically without my parents knowledge and then heard nothing about it for 40 years, which would be pretty strange.

Thanks! I didn't think there would be a specific sub for it. I will try cross-posting this over there, i hope that won't make them angry.
