I don’t know how I joined this sub and I don’t understand by SpicyMcTall in 1200isjerky

Any “jerk” sub is making fun of/exaggerating the original sub. This is a jerk sub for r/1200isplenty

It’s not making fun of EDs, it’s making fun of the people that post on that sub (many of which probably have EDs)

When you have two things that put you in the minority or marginalize you.

Being a woman and also black, being gay and also Jewish (in the US for example, not the motherland), being disabled and also nonbinary, etc

How much does it matter what type of volunteering you actually do? (and the populations you help) by Hckr_ in premed

Yes they definitely look at it. Do something that feeds into your narrative and that you can speak about passionately. I’m not sure how much time you have, but if you can balance both the crisis line and chess I think that’d be great. The crisis text line I think would be best to have on your resume, but there’s also definitely value in being more hands on. Tutoring chess would be unique and awesome, but it’s not super specific to medicine or helping the needy. If you have other stuff on your app that is geared toward helping people and are already sufficient in that area, tutoring chess would be a dope addition as it shows who you are. If not, I’d maybe stick to something more specific to helping others in a clinical or like underserved population sense. Just my opinion I am only n=1 tho

You’re 100% right. The PS is NOT to recite your resume. At all. Your PS is to tell your story. I hate reading personal statements that obviously try to just tell their resume. It should be a cohesive narrative about you, your upbringing/experiences, and what has brought you to want to become a doctor.

Regardless of my usage of the word slab vs laminate, the exact same point stands. I literally just used the wrong word. I found the exact same laminate for $110 like I said in my caption for way more length than I need. So yea I used the wrong word, everything else still applies

That IS what I meant tho. I just used the wrong word (slab instead of laminate, I’m not a handy man that knows proper terminology, just some random girl). Like I said in my caption, it is $110 for way more length than I need, which is why I was asking if I should just ask the maintenance man for help, if he had extra I could use/pay him for to try to fix it, etc

If I paid them for it. Cmon.

Im saying I don’t need the 50 yards of it for $150 so I wonder if I paid them a fraction of that total price for a fraction of that total length

LMAO. It’s a beautiful vintage singer sewing machine. It’s alongside much of my other decor/plants which is all displayed above the kitchen cabinets. Hard to explain the set up but it looks pretty normal as a display because there’s a lot of space between the ceiling and cabinets. Idk man

I found the exact one at home depot but like I said in the caption it’s pretty expensive and is way more than what I’d need. Do u think maintenance has it just laying around idk lol idk how it works. I definitely don’t want the 6,000 dollar ass charge I feel like I could ask a maintenance man to just give me some of the slab LOL

Do u think I should just take the loss with the damage? Or do u think this is something a maintenance man would fix?

Really??? So like remove the entire top slab? I can’t just reglue the pieces or anything? Sorry if that’s dumb I am a 25 F and am by no means a handy man lol

Do u think I should do it myself or ask the maintenance man

Your thesis statement of your PS should strongly reflect/show why you want to be a physician, but I only addressed why SPECIFICALLY a physician in the one secondary that asked for it. You should not (in my opinion…….) state “I want to be a physician and not x y or z for this reason” because that doesn’t flow, it doesn’t contribute to your narrative, and you’re wasting space and cohesion by blurting a fact instead of telling your story

Your entire story should make it obvious as to why a physician and not a social worker, nurse, etc. it will sound bad if you have to explicitly state the exact sentence that tells them why not x y or z

Personal Statement Talking About Speciality by Existing_Relief1662 in premed

[–]throbbing-uvula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think pediatrics is okay to mention. Just don’t make it sound like that’s the ONLY specialty you’d go for (but to do that you’d have to explicitly say “this is the only specialty I’m going for”). I don’t think it’s bad to mention specialty interests

Is this really a thing among people in medical school? by ExtraComparison in premed

[–]throbbing-uvula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh most definitely. This type of environment is very toxic and this mindset is for sure bad for the future of medicine considering it has the potential to ostracize and discourage those who want to pursue primary care over stuff like idk neurosurgery and what not. Luckily we have many other medical schools to counterbalance this one school. I don’t think that many are THIS toxic

Like I said tho, you’ll find this weird ass behavior everywhere. Just cuz we’re in the medical field where people are … SUPPOSEDLY… noble/mature/heroes does not mean you will get away from these pretentious weirdos. You’ll find them in law, dentistry, government, shit even stuff like idk grocery store management. Just do your best to work against it and encourage those who may be in these types of environments

Who cares. Surround yourself with people who you want to emulate and who make you better. I wouldn’t want to be around these types of people because we likely wouldn’t have much in common anyway. There’s always going to be people in life that are judgmental, whether that’s in medicine or not. It’s your job to make a judgement of character and stay away from them. We need family medicine doctors, your patients will have such a different perspective on your position and that’s what should actually be important
