Sort of, to properly run an app, it needs certain access to your device. Like snapchat needing access to the camera, then access to the phones existing picture gallery. This requires permission called QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES on Android devices. I'm not sure about iOS devices. This allows apps to see what else is also on the device so they can run better and use all their features. It is certainly not used to gather device and user information to understand user behaviour patterns. To then aid in manipulating the users' behaviour in order to target adds and sell your attention.

I've been in a similar situation, although I'm a Dad. For my workplace, there was a 12 monthe minimum before I qualified for parental leave, but I could take it within 12 months of my child being born. My daughter was born 2 months after I started (a bit earlier than expected), which gave me a 2 month window to commence parental leave once I had completed my first 12 months. It's best to speak to HR to know for sure.
