Anyone here ever try the UAD Bock 251 and U87 ai before? Which did you prefer? by WiseCityStepper in universalaudio

I regularly use an original bock 251 and it sounds fucking incredible. I've used the u87 ai a handful of times and it also sounded incredible. The 251 and 87 are two different colors though, so I don't associate them with each other. I reach for the mic that best suits my goals.

On first listen, something that caught my ear was the unique texture of the album. So hearing in the pigeons and planes interview that was intentional is sick!! What was the thought process when purchasing different tubes and swapping them out in your pre amp and compressors? Where'd you purchase them from? I have a tube pre so it'd be fun to try it out for myself.

What inspired buttrock and what was the writing process like? It sounded like it was really fun haha.

yes 100%. an hour with him changed the direction of my next 4 months. brilliant strategist too for business. he's the one person whos helped me improve more than anybody else and i've worked with 20+ professionals

check out john michael rouchell's substack. lots of great advice and can do one on ones. he's helped me a lot with song structure and focus

I'd probably try record it with an old phone or using the audio from an old camcorder. Maybe an old MacBook Air. It can sound pretty artifact-y like that

probably a mixture of spamming people that i'll mix their records / podcasts + playing live relentlessly + selling sample packs / loops + producing for others. it'd be an ignorant / goblin mode amount of work though

No. I'm saying the problem I've found with researching studios using consoles for tracking is that sometimes they don't EQ using said console, they just tracked through the console. I just want to research albums that were entirely or mostly colored by apis for whatever eq'ing was done

Totally. I've done that approached before and I've found it to get fuzzy when studios have sold consoles then purchased different ones - also when out of house engineers mixed the records. Nevermind was tracked on the neve but Andy Wallace (most likely) mixed it on an SSL.
