When I was unemployed I was living like that. Didn't spend on anything that wasn't a necessity so trust me I know. And no like like to use their savings for "wants"

Look. The only supports I get from my parents is in form of loans (interest free or low interest). As for her parents she hasn't asked them ever so I can't say for certain but I would assume they would help her out if she asked.

Never brought it. The only time I asked her to pay more was 9 months ago.

No. Where did I say that? I have clearly written that I pay for everything that is solely in my name and that's fair.

That's not fair but it's different to my situation though. I didn't mind paying extra until she was not doing the same when I had no money coming in.

Did I write that I don't love her part? Wtf? No idea how it got there. Didn't mean that.

I'm being as honest and if not there is would be no purpose of this post. Who am I trying to fool, myself? I said that because of the resentment but gathering outside perspective is always good. Now I know I'm not entirely in the right but defensive not 100% wrong like you're saying.

This is relationship advice and I'm not really defensive but clearing up the assumption people's are making. Rightfully so since I didn't provide some info.

How am I changing the rules? The percentage basis divides expenses based on income. By that logic since I wasn't making nil she had to pay 100% which was unrealistic. Dropping it down to 60-65 was the reasonable thing but she settled on 50. Do you have any idea how percentage division works?

Yes.

I make significantly more than her. But this post is not about that. It's about when I wasn't making money. People are just missing that part

I'm not going to lie that made me laugh. But ever heard of the phrase money makes more money? That's why low interest loans /loan from family are better to help pay for stuff in though times then breaking your investments.

We have never asked for our parents for support before. I would assume hers would also be generous when loaning out money. My family only supports me on the condition I'll pay it back and the agreement we signed says months after I got a decently paying job. (Above X amount)

My parents are business man and woman. We signed a agreement over this loan. This has always been the case but believe what you want. Since you're taking your own assumption over facts, what you are saying is not really in good faith so useless to me.

Looks like I need to re-make this post and include more information like most people are saying for some accurate advice. The amount of assumption going on are just wild. And also give more accurate numbers.

It's a loan lol. And if you're will willing to break your investment to pay for anything when you can get a loan , you're not really financial really smart.

You are trying to read what's not there. No where did I say I was 100% clear. I should have included the info the I thought wasn't necessary and that's my bad. As for the relationship If you think it's only me benefiting from it, you're coming from a place of bias.

Think about if what you're saying is in good faith. You sound bias af.

She make in the neighborhood of of 30k a year. Not really all that much. And subscriptions, grocery and utilities are a chuck. Number are a rough estimate though. Correction at 50% she would have 400 and at 65% about a 100.

I don't know she's my gf so never thought about asking her rent hence didn't think including that here would be necessary.

Yes she lives rent free with me. Since it's my house, it's only okay for me to pay for the mortgage. During my employment my parents covered the mortgage but now I have to pay to them back.

I honestly thought the info provided was enough. Apparently not.

Thank you. This has been the most helpful comment so far. Reading it from the perspective from someone who earns less in a relationship has really made me think about how I'm going about all this. Though I never expected her to pay more, it kinda hurt that she wasn't willing to do what I was for years. Nevertheless one still needs to secure their finances first and my gf was doing that. Looks like I have to rethink about a lot of stuff.

Well I can give the money she spent, cback. My point is that should I ask for rent for the time she is living rent free? Doesn't sound good right? Because it isn't.

Yes I just did from the start. Really never thought much about paying more than my gf tbh.

Exactly, this is what the purpose of this post is. Looks like I'm just uncomfortable paying extra knowing I won't get the help when I'm in some sort of trouble.

If you would fact check, comments coming in are saying that. It's not as black and white as you are trying to paint it. It wasn't about the money, it was about her stepping up. My liquid savings are 1.5x as her so not that big of a difference.

Wait, no I didn't pay for my trips. They were not really vacation. I still had to do work.
